Udupi, Jul 3: It was a day of fun and frolic as hundreds gathered at the slush fields of Doddamane in Alevoor village near here on Sunday July 3 to participate in the 'Kesard Onji Dina' rural sports fest.

The event was organized under the aegis of Ganeshotsava Samiti, Guddeangadi, Alevoor, Karnataka state youth services, empowerment and sports department, Udupi and the zilla panchayat.

The enthusiastic participants - men, women and children of different age groups - thoroughly enjoyed the day getting muddy in the slushy fields and trying their skills in various games.

The organizers also arranged a rural 'ganji oota' for all the gathered. Villagers served steaming boiled rice with jackfruit sukka, Brahmi chutney, bean soup, beetroot chutney and much more to add a delicious flavour to the day.

Children and adults participated in various competitions such as running race, tug-of-war, breaking the pot, volleyball and so on. Spirits were high and there was laughter and fun all around as the participants gave their best and played each game sportively.

A special event organized for women was 'Moote ota', where mothers had to run carrying their kids on their backs.

All in all, the day brought forth the splendour of traditional sports.

Fund is welcome especially in the company of many. Also, prioritize health concerns whilst playing in the mud.

Really unique idea indeed to spend a day in the field which will boost the interest of the youth towards agriculture which is slowly evaporating in the rural area.

Nice pics..more such activities should be conducted in and around mangalore and we should preserve our age old cultures so that future generation can also enjoy our age old practices and not just be involved in new gen activities.

Even the ganji oota menu is just super, when I read that,my mouth started watering "LOL".
Good work by organiser,Hope all the participants have received proper medication facility as well during this activity(Safety First)
