Udupi, Jul 5: Milagres College, Kallianpur accorded special farewell to its beloved principal Dr Neri Cornelio and Ramachandra, second division assistant on Tuesday, Jul 5.
Dr Neri had served for as lecturer in M G M College, Udupi, Government College, Hebri and St Mary’s College, Shirva for 16 years. He joined Milagres College in 1995
and has served as a lecturer for the remaining 21 years including 5 years as a principal. Ramachandra who had joined as an office assistant got promoted to the second division assistant over a period of 4 decades at Milagres College.
Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the ceremony and felicitated both Dr Neri and Ramachandra on their retirement.
Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary, CESU, Fr Stany Lobo, Correspondent, Milagres Institutions, Fr Prakash Anil Castelino, Campus Director, Savitha Hebbar, Principal, Milagres PU College, Allan Lewis, President, Alma Mater, Shekar Baikady, President, PTA, Dr Gerald Pinto, New principal, Milagres college, Prof Annamma, Prof Shalet, Prof Subramanya Joshi shared the Stage along with Dr Neri Cornelio and Ramachandra.
Fr Stany Lobo said during his address "There is a saying 'Give the world your best and the world will give you back its best.' Dr. Neri has given his best to his students, faculty, Institution and society. He has rendered his services above his capacity under various circumstances. Throughout the career, he has be an able and beloved teacher, loved person and an organizer. He has worked keenly for the development and progress of the institute. I profusely thank him for his work and service to all.”
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Lawrence D’Souza said “Dr Neri has been globally visual person and at the same time locally been active to the society. He has been always dynamic working and inspiring others to do work. Ramachandra on other hand has worked hard quietly. Both might have retired today but they seem to be far away from being tired for anything. I wish them both a happy retired life."
Bishop Dr Gerald narrated a small incident where Dr Neri had come for an interview for the post of lecturer at St Mary’s College Shirva, many years back. He and his board were impressed by his method of teaching and had appointed him later on.
“Back then, I did not know that I would be happy enough to participate in the retirement function of Dr Neri today. Milagres College Kallianpur, the name is enough to say the glory of the college. Many great souls have worked for bringing up the name of the school. Dr Neri is one of the proud persons to be involved in bringing up the name of the institute,.” the bishop said.
“A role of the principal keeps growing day by day. He does not remain just a principal to a institute but become a PRO ‘Personal relations Officer’. Then he has to sustain good relations with his students, faculty, parents, society and more. He is the key person who takes the institution to the destined course,” he added.
“On the other hand Ramachandra, though has been working quietly inside the four walls, has jointly associated with the retired Dr Neri in betterment of the college’s fame. I wish them both a blessed and happy retirement life. And through their experience let them support the college occasionally.” the bishop concluded.
Dr Neri thanked each and every single person for their co operation and timely support. He said “I am in a state of mixed feelings of being elated, honoured and desolated. Elated and honoured because I’m retiring from my services and I have been satisfied by my responsibility as a principal,”
“Desolated because, I will be missing the company of my beloved staff and students. Throughout my profession I have never compromised with the discipline. I know that I have given my best and have done justice to my profession. I thank Bishop Gerald for guiding me to take up political Science as a subject over Economics, when I had joined St Mary’s. I thank my Milagres institute which has also been my alma mater.” Dr Neri added.
Wherein Dr Neri never missed a name, he was thankful to Ramachandra, chose poetic words to thank the Lady of Milagres for her choicest blessings and thanked all for their support.
Dr Neri Cornelio has retired on June 30 while Ramachandra will be retiring on July 31.
Prof Melvin C Rego and Xavier Fernandes expressed their gratitude and sentiments towards the retiring personalities.
Rosalia Cardoza on behalf of students praised and thanked Both Dr Neri and Ramachandra for their services.
Dr Gerald Pinto welcomed the dignitaries and Prof Annamma proposed the vote of thanks.
