Bengaluru, Jul 6: Vetran politician, K B Koliwad, was unanimously elected as speaker of Karnataka assembly on Tuesday July 5. The seat had fallen vacant after the previous incumbent, Kadogu Thimmappa, was made a minister.

Immediately after his election as speaker, Koliwad expressed his intention to function neutrally in the assembly by informing that he had written to the concerned to keep his membership of Congress party and Congress parliamentary party in abeyance.
Koliwad was the only person to have filed his nomination papers for the post of the assembly speaker. Chief minister proposed his name while law minister, T B Jayachandra, seconded it.
