Mangaluru: Narrow escape - Private bus dashes into shop at State Bank

Mangaluru, Jul 7: It was a close shave for passersby as a parked bus at State Bank here moved all of a sudden and dashed into a shop. The incident occured on Thursday July 7.

It is learnt that the driver of the bus (route 2C) had parked his vehicle near a shop and gone to have tea. The bus moved all of a sudden and smashed into the name board of a nearby shop.

Luckily, there was no one in the bus and no injuries were reported.

Sources said that a woman fish vendor moved out of the way in the nick of time and saved herself from harm.

The SM Travels bus was supposed to ply from State Bank to Jokatte.

Bunder police have registered a case.

    The busstand itself in Mangalore is a catastroph.Middle of Mangalore ,so many People move around ,no Need of counting other vehicles.We should say thank God noone injured here.Municipality should seriously think of moving These busstand elsewhere.Bus too wanted to drink tea probably.Probably he ´must have not pulled handbrake.Other side Police should now continuously to control These buses not only on Speed limit,but they are overfilled.Is there no Limit?students hang .Inspectors are really sleeping,and wait for extra Money.

    Ms.Judith from Mumbai said it correctly. UNITY IS STRENGTH. For long time I have been asking all Mangaloreans to call Police Control Room(PCR) and inform them about the Rowdy Bus drivers speeding with Loud Horns plus using the headlights on and off with high beam. This acts are to scare the front vehicle to move out of His way. Police Control room is very polite and helpful.
    Many a times I have given the numbers where to call. But very few do call and inform. I do it everyday when I see a life is in danger due to these rowdy drivers.
    Friends again I request every one of you,please call PCR and save a life. It may be a Child or your loved ones might loose their life.

    Please do not get fearful but be brave and do the act.
    Please note: Now a new game is started by these Rowdy drivers. They chase the bus in front of them to pick up passengers. Plus many times they keep the bus in cross position to block the other bus from moving. In split of second,this rowdy driver may hit a divider wall and turn over ,thus killing few passengers. Let us all join the fight.

    Sure, whenever I visit mangalore, I will call up the control room against erring bus drivers. I have saved the number on my mobile. I feel all mangaloreans should follow for their and family friends safety

    Guys,on what basis do we call this a bus stand no bus stand with shelter can imagine when it pours, the passengers have to take shelter of the near by shops. There is no footpath and Mangalore was a contender for the smart city projects. What are our elected representatives doing cutting ribbon's and going for graduation function's etc.,the citizens of Mangalore should not invite elected representatives for all the above said functions. We have not seen any good work done by the elected members let it be from the corporation, MLA, MLC, MP, etc.

    it is useless commenting unless you people yourself take action when you'll see the driver overspeeding all passengers should take to task the driver. unity is strength. you never know when your loved ones are on the road. becos these ruthless drivers have absolute no fear of law they know they can come out easily on bail. so many accidents they have committed in recent years. no govt will come to your aid. you'll common man should yourselves tackle the situation.

    Even engaging in top gear like 4th or 5th in slopes, while parking, won't stop the vehicle moving down due to downward force of the vehicle. For safe parking, vehicles provided with hand brakes and lowest gear may be used while parking in slopes. Never seen any drivers of the city bus applieng the hand brake while parking. They come in high speed in top gear and park with same gear. This, I observed many times.

    Thousands of people use this area to catch city buses (including me). There is no footpath. You can see from above pictures. The other side footpath is occupied by fruits and vegetable vendors. Since it is very prominent and important area, the concerned authorities must act and take care of this area and protect the people. Now it seems the area is in India and authorities belong to Pakistan as they are not interested in the safety of the people of India. Otherwise they would have made good footpaths, Waiting area for passengers, Rules for drivers for parking etc.

    Most of these alcoholic drivers from mangalore will be at either Periera hotel nearby wineshop or any other nearby wineshop to have small pegs during non-peak hours....this i have seen by myself...both driver and conductor share a quarter....I request mangalore police to raid all wine shops during daytime around statebank and other places and arrest these drivers and conductors and cancel their lience permanently.

    everyone is observing as a lighter view since no fatal injuries. Just imagine for a while that there were people or kids standing in front of the bus and same movement would have killed them on the spot. What I mean is that why these stupid drivers ( who is seen smiling in the pic , not sure if he is the driver of the same bus ) , why they don't have the seriousness. Will they park the bus like that if it's their loved ones standing in front of the bus... why such carelessness are not penalized ? We take stuffs lightly and that has made these folks to take things granted, even the life of other humans.

    Guess the reason for sudden movement? Vehicle was in neutral and no resistance so free flow.
    Solution:- park in reverse gear in downward slope. Acts as a break.
    For parking at upward hills park with first gear engaged. It acts as a break.
    This works all the time and your vehicle will be safe.

    Do you think,These bus drivers don't know this logic. If you keep it in Neutral, the bus will move forward at the time of parking itself. It will not Wait for driver to go and have some tea.

    SM travels was the same bus which caused a death (Ms Joyline) in Nantoor- Bike Bus accident.... These drivers will never learn and have put everyones life at risk...
