Kundapur, Nov 16: A state-level power-lifting competition will be held in Koteshwar from Friday November16 to Saturday November18. The competition is being held under the joint auspices of Saligram Koteshwar Veeramaruthi and the Thekkatte unit of Karnataka Rakshna Vedike. Mahalxmi Madhwarya Hatwar Sabhavan would be the venue for the proposed juniors and masters state-level competitions both for boys and girls.
Meeting the press reporters at the Kundapur press club Santhosh Kumar Kudroli, honorary secretary, Karnataka power-lifting association announced the salient features of the event. More than 200 competitors would participate in the event. Among the favourite teams are Mangalore Balanjaneya Gymnasium, Dhavangere Beereshwara vyayama Shale, Municipal sports club, Ujire S D M recreation club and Kundapur Hercules Gymnasium. The participation of national and international winners is an additional attraction to the event.
The selection for the national event to be held in Assam in January, 2008 would be done out of those competitors of Karnataka state group and for South India-level out the power lifting championship to be held in Mangalore town hall from December 4 to 7.
Kundapur circle inspector Valentine D’Souza being an athlete himself has promised cooperation to the event to be held for the second time, after the first event was held in the year of 2004 at Koteshwar. The event would be presided over by Krishna Prasad Adyanthya, the administrative trustee, Kolluru Mookambika Temple and K Jayaprakasha Hegde MLA of Brahmavar would inaugurate the function.
The valedictory function would be on November 18 at 5.30 in the evening. Ponnuraj, the deputy commissioner would felicitate the international athlete and the winner of Ekalavya award U Sudha Prabhu, the vice-president of Udupi district panchayat Sujatha Vasudeva, industrialist B M Ramakrishna Hathwar and the president Mogaveera Youth Association Ganapathy T Shriyan.
Among those present at the press conference were Krishnappa, vice-president Indian power-lifting federation, Ramachandra Ganiga, M Madhuchandra, the honorary secretary of South Canara power-lifting association, A Umesh Gatti and M Mohanraj, the trainers for national power-lifting, Bharath Kumar Shetty, honoray president, Karnataka Rakhana Vedike, Prakasha Shetty, president and Kumari Sudha Prabhu.
