Monsoon subsides in Himachal, to remain weak till July 9

Shimla, July 7 (IANS): The monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has subsided and will continue to remain weak till July 9, a weather official said here on Thursday.

"Precipitation occurred at a few places on Wednesday. There was no appreciable change in the minimum temperatures," an official of the Meteorological Department told IANS.

Nahan and Bilaspur towns each saw just 1 mm of rainfall.

The weather bureau said the towns of Narkanda, Kufri, Shimla, Dharamsala, Palampur and Manali recorded no rain since Wednesday.

"The monsoon will be subdued till July 9 with chances of rain at some places in mid hills on July 10," the official added.

He said there are chances of widespread rainfall across the state from July 11 and 13.

A government spokesperson said the water level in the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and its tributaries, which were earlier in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts, has started receding.
