Kadaba, Nov 18: A woman has tried to commit suicide by lying on the track when Subramanya bound train from Mangalore was about to pass through, here being reported on Saturday, November 17 morning while the presence of mind of the engine driver, has foiled the tragedy.

The suicide attempt has become the first such incidence, after the major tragedy that occurred in an unguarded level crossing near Narimogru, under the jurisdiction of Puttur, few days ago wherein three people were succumbed to death when their jeep driver tried to cross the railway track without noticing the speeding train, still remains afresh in the minds of neighbouring residents, including railway officials and commuters.

The train was briefly halted at Kodimbala railway station, which lies between Subramanya and Puttur.  The engine driver was given green signal to begin the onward journey, when he noticed a woman wearing a sky blue colour saree, found to be lying on the track.  The engine driver and few of the commuters alighted and managed to reach the spot.  However, the woman seems to have fled the spot, when she observed people coming closer to her.  Sources stated that she was known to be a college student, while the exact reason for her to commit suicide remained a mystery.
