Mangaluru, Jul 15: The Mangalore Bar Association on Friday July 15 staged a protest against the state government demanding the CBI inquiry into the suicide of deputy superintendent of police (DySP) M K Ganapati here in the court premises.

Mangalore Bar Association president and JD(S) leader advocate S P Chengappa said, "DySP Ganapati committed suicide owing to pressure from a minister and police officials. Prior to his suicide, he clearly said in a TV interview that former home minister K J George, additional director general of police (intelligence) A M Prasad and Lokayukta inspector general of police Pranab Mohanty had harassed him and they would be responsible if anything happened to him,"

"There have been many incidents that have taken place in the state against government officials like the attack on Rashmi Mahesh, D K Ravi's suicide incident, Anupama Shenoy's resignation, harassment of Mysuru DC Shikha etc. We demand the resignation of George immediately. People do not have confidence in COD or CID. The case should be handed over to the CBI with a timeframe. The two officials should be suspended immediately," Chengappa added.

"I had met Ganapati personally four days before his suicide and he had told me the same thing about the harassment. The death note written by Ganapati is also missing. This creates suspicion. The case should be handed over to the CBI."

The lawyers resumed work in court after the protest, wearing black badges.

There is no meaning in lawyers demanding CBI inquiry into Ganapati's case as this case is one among many cases that lawyers handle.

Lawyers/CID/CBI should not involve in any protest rather help in providing justice.
Looks like JD(S) Minister is behind this. Funny part is lawyers don't believe in judicial enquiry. And we believe. We wait patiently for so many years for any case handled by these lawyers but lawyers have no patience in CID investigation.
    Good move by the CM.

Why these Lawyers are protesting and harassing George, Prasad and Mohanty. If any one of them commits suicide, then someone else has to protest to charge sheet those who are responsible for his suicide. Very funny.

I don't think they are representing all Lawyers in Mangalore. Are they DySP Ganapathi's Lawyers?

Lawyers are suppose to be professionals, unbiased, bound by ethics and held in higher standards like Judges. They should act accordingly.

Pray, since when have our lawyers started taking interest in what is happening around us? With all my respects to them, they are the ones who abet corruption and wrong doings in our society and is it really laughable that they have now taken the cudgels on behalf of this deceased person. There is something more than meets the eye.

    DEAR LAWYERS,
The MLA s are doing drama in the assembly hall are just enjoying free food and with all facility, let them do the Hunger strike without any facility in the open ground outside the Assembly hall.
I would like raise few questions to them.
    1. How much work done for your constituency,
    2. What is the remarkable work done for your constituency
    3. How many govt. hospital running in proper condition with necessary staff
    4. How much corruption you have stopped in your constituency’s govt. office
    5. What is better facility given for police department in your constituency
    6. How much you fought for development of your constituency
    7. Keep your hand on your heart and ask yourself is this drama only for your political mileage and not for the people am I right. So don’t fool the people.
    8. If the some of the political leader resigns then you people will forget case and then you will raise the issue only during the election time. This 100% true
    9. Once you become MLA or MLC or MP you will get all free facility (FOC = free of cost) enjoying on public tax money. Once you retried you will get pension too. So what party member is getting?
    10. You never fight for common people problem, you give only promises during the elections
    11. How many better roads laid? Better drinking facility, electricity to every once house in your constituency you have given.
    12. Our India is not poor country. It is rich country with CORRUPT POLITICIAN ALONG WITH FEW CORRUPT GOVT. EMPLOYEES.

Now you all readers or commenter’s can give answer for it. But keep your politics aside AND LAWYERS CAN YOU JUSTIFY YOUR PROTEST

@Mohan, If I commit suicide and mention you name, would you ready to be behind the bar forever?? We have seen rape cases before and now we will see suicide cases so that they can take revenge after death. You can't put someone behind bar just because someone named you in their suicide note. Why this BAR association was silent when the children were beaten up by this same DySP during the church attack?? Why they did not protested when MLAs were watching porn in the assembly?? Why they did not demand justice when there were so many rapes took place in India??

Strange, why Bar council didn't demand CBI inquiry for Vyapam scam of M.Pradesh under the stewardship of Chauhan, where 51 witness were killed?
    He is still ruling!
Here it is just a case of 1 (one) suicide!
    They want CBI to intervene?
No value for federal structure of the country?
BJP / Lawyers didn't learn anything from Hon. Supreme court verdict in regards to Arunachal pradesh Govt?

These lawyers did not protest when Ganapathi and other cops like satheesh used lathicharge and Tear gas on innocent people.

The Tear gas shells which were used were expires 9 years ago and as a result it landed 400 people in the hospital...some landed in ICU because the gas was toxic.

    Dear Sri,
Let the law takes it's own course, and be fair, we don't have any problem.
    But the real issue is,
Why BJP'ans having soft corner only to DySp MGK, who attacked us and Churches!
Why not to others like Baliga, DySp Kallappa? Don't you see different yard sticks are applied here?
That DySp MGK was ruthless with us but was very lenient with B.D.
He was duty bound to treat everyone in impartisan manner!
If the issues were taken in a fair and transferrant manner, why should we agitate? We agitate against those who harmed us.
