Mangalore Nov 20: Renowned Sarod virtuoso Ustad Amjad Ali Khan addressed media persons at the Taj Manjarun Hotel here on Monday November 19 after the completion of one of his sterling performances, as part of ‘Swara Laya’ series at the Town Hall held on Sunday November 18.

Speaking on the occasion, Amjad Ali Khan dealing at length on the impact of foreign invasion on Indian culture rued “Our culture is facing aggression by the excessive arrival of TV channels, which have been airing only things that are not necessary for the youth”.

Khan opined that India has lost its identity, as television channels have not been responsible enough to air anything that would contribute to our tradition and culture. According to him, film libraries in the country have some of the most wonderful documentaries on legendary personalities that the young generation must know about. And such documentaries must be aired at least once a week. However “even (though) there are a number of documentaries produced on our culture, but there are no takers for it,” he rued further.

He advised that there should be strict censorship even on religious channels, and informed that today India is looked upon by countries across the world with great regard. Hence it is very important to keep this aspect intact, he added.

One telling comment which he made in the course of the press meet was when he was speaking about the contribution of education to society. He said “Education has failed in informing (that) all have one common God.”
Moreover, according to the Sarod maestro the appreciation and motivation given by the audience helped him to perform better and he expressed his wish to come back to the city for another performance with his sons Aman and Ayan in the future.

Sangeeth Bharathi president Ustad Rafique Khan and Narendra L Nayak were present.

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan has rightly described the present status of our society. Mad run after western values, turn blind eye to our culture and great past, there by loosing identity. The new found culture practiced by few, DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN GODS, is height of foolishness.
