Hassan, Jul 20: A gang 15 attacked a youth near the sand trade centre at Nidigere in Hettur revenue division in Sakleshpur taluk of the district with lethal weapons and hacked him to death on Monday July 18 night. As per reports, the murder related to dispute over sand trade.

The murdered youngster has been identified as Ajay Sakfal (28). He was returning after visiting Nidigere in a pick up truck at around 8.30 pm on Monday along with his friend, Santosh, and some others, when a gang intercepted their vehicle. The gang reportedly dragged Ajay out of the vehicle, and attacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, policemen said.

It is gathered that the work of extracting sand at Nidigere sand trade centre was bagged by a person named Ramachandra. He had given this work to Congress leader, D C Sannaswamy. Kumar used to remove sand on behalf of Sannaswamy.

Before this, for sometime, Ajay Sakfal used to extract sand through Sannaswamy, but after differences arose between them, Sannaswamy had appointed Kumar as his authorized person in the place of Ajay. On this issue, Sakfal and Kumar fought often, locals said.

There was friction between the two some days back on this subject. Therefore, it is widely being speculated that this enmity might have resulted in this murder. Policemen are investigating.
