Sheena Bora murder: Peter was fond of late night parties and young women, says ex-wife

New Delhi, Jul 21 (India Today) : A day after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea conspired to kill Sheena Bora, the agency today revealed the statement of Peter's first wife Shabnam.

Shabnam recorded her statement on November 25 last year. However, a part of her statement has still not been revealed.

Shabnam in her statement said that Peter Mukerjea had a penchant for young women.

"He was very fond of late night parties and had several women in his life. This was the only reason why I decided to file a divorce against him," she said.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Peter Mukerjea and Shabnam were married from 1978 to 1994 and had two children, Rahul and Robin. After the divorce, Shabnam shifted to England.

Peter gave Shabnam the expenses to bring up the children.

When Peter went to England to meet his children, he took Indrani along. "He introduced her as his girlfriend and told me he is planning to marry her," Shabnam said.

Shabnam remembers that on hearing this news she congratulated him and said "Tum nahi sudhroge" (You will not mend your ways).

"I thought that he would dump her like his previous girlfriends as he had a penchant for young women. But he married Indrani despite her reputation," said Shabnam.

After Peter returned to India, Indrani called Shabnam suggesting her to ask Peter for a huge alimony. Shabnam was upset and told her to mind her own business.

"Peter Mukerjea has no morals, and is always fascinated by young women. He was very fond of late night parties and had several women in his life. This was the only reason why I divorced him," said Shabnam said.

WHY WAS THIS NOT RELEASED BEFORE

CBI had earlier released a statement by Shabnam with the chargesheet to all the accused. One of the advocates connected with the case said, "CBI did not want to put out the statement as it was about Peter's character. However, it was Peter's lawyers who wanted this statement and so we gave it to the defense today."

However, Shreyansh Mithare, the lawyer of Sanjeev Khanna, another accused in the case, said, "On reading the statement there is just about nothing that could alter the course of arguments in the case, so I do not understand why did the CBI keep it secret for so long?"

Neverthless, the statement handed out to the defense is a truncated version which has left defense lawyers wondering what was in missing paragraph.
