Kundapur: Dead body of fisherman washed away in river - found

Kundapur, Jul 25: The dead body of a fisherman, a resident of Karkunje, Sanjiva Mogaveera aged 53, who had gone fishing on Saturday July 23 and reported missing was found on Sunday evening, July 24.



Sanjiva had been fishing since childhood and had been currently fishing in Goa. He used to fish with a pole and net. He had come home on two months leave during the monsoons and had gone to catch fish in the Chakra River at Nellimakki on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. As he did not return till evening, his anxious wife informed the nearby people and relatives and began searching for him.

His boat was found in the usual place on the banks of the river. As only one portion of the boat was tied, it was suspected that he got drowned in the river. His pole and betel bag were found in the boat.
Locals and relatives searched for him till late night on Saturday. Fire brigade personnel, expert swimmers and divers continued the search operation on Sunday morning as well.

His dead body was found on Sunday evening under the bridge near Kundapur Bagwadi. It was sent to the Kundapur government hospital for post-mortem.

Sanjiva had made fishing his occupation and he was to return to Goa at the end of this month. He has left behind his wife and two daughters.

A police case is registered at Kundapur police station.
