Mangaluru, Jul 25: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai accused the opposition BJP of defaming the image of government and Congress party despite the resignation of former Bengaluru development minister K J George over DySP Ganapati suicide case investigation.
Addressing the media persons here at Circuit House on Monday July 25, Rai said "Congress has been working for the betterment of poor and weaker sections in the society. But the opposition BJP is defaming the government over the suicide of DySP Ganapati. K J George has resigned from his ministerial post to enable fair inquiry. Despite his resignation, the opposition parties have continued to defame the government."
"There are serious allegation and criminal cases on former ministers of BJP, MPs and about 14 ministers in the central government. They are not talking about those things. BJP legislators are not talking about the suicide of Kallappa Handibag as Bajrang Dal and one of BJP MLAs is involved in this case. In the past during BJP rule, we had demanded about 13 cases to be handed over to CBI but they did not handover even one. They said they did not have confidence in CBI. But now all of a sudden they have got faith in CBI," Rai added.
"Eight cases have been handed over to CBI by the congress government in the past three years. Central government officials like IAS officer Vijayalakshmi Joshi, head of Swachh Bharat and many other officials have taken voluntary retirement being unable to handle the pressure from the central government. In BJP ruled states we have noticed many cases of atrocities on the Dalits, backward classes and minorities in the name of cow protection. We have seen atrocities in the recent Una incident in Gujarat and in Dadri lynching incident," Rai said.
"In Rohith Vemula suicide the names of central minister Smrithi Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya's name were mentioned in the death note but no arrest were made or no resignations were tendered by these ministers. Congress has always worked for the betterment and upliftment of poor and backward classes. I request the people to understand the agenda of BJP to malign the image and hide the good works of government by picking and blowing up small issues." Rai concluded.
Youth congress president Mithun Rai, Former MLA's Gopal Bhandary, Vijay Kumar Shetty and others were present.
