Udupi: Catholic Sabha organizes five-day ‘Parisar Samrakshan’

Udupi, Jul 27: Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh Regd organized ‘Parisar Samrakshan’ (Save Nature), a five-day program organized in five different deaneries of the Udupi diocese namely at Kundapura, Kallianpura, Udupi, Shirva and Karkala on five consecutive days starting from July 11 to July 15.

“His holiness Pope Francis in his official letter ‘Laudato Si’ to the world has asked us to give special attention to the Mother Nature and sustaining it to the future generations. Responding to his call, and as per the instructions of Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, we at our zone decided to create the awareness of our surroundings from the affects of global warming and other factors deteriorating Mother Nature.”

“We organized this program open to all without any bias, young and old. We held a seminar session with the qualified persons on all the five days, and got a very good response. We handed over the plant saps to all the students and asked them to plant in the required places around their surroundings. We also asked them to take care or look after the planted saps for a minimum of two years. This was the first ever program to be organized this widely in our zone,” said Valerian Fernandes, president, Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh Regd.

At Kundapura on July 11, Fr Anil D’Souza, dean, Kundapura deanery, Dilip, Forest office, Vasanthi Saran, at Kallianpura on July 12, Fr Stany B Lobo, dean, Kallianpura deanery, Suresh Ganiga, Forest Officer, at Udupi on July 13, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, secretary, CESU, Fr Royson Fernandes, Asst parish priest, Udupi, Meenakshi Madhav, president, Udupi municipal corporation, Sandhya, vice president, Udupi municipal corporation, at Shirva on July 14, Fr Stany B. Lobo, dean, Shirva Deanery, Ln Wilson Rodrigues, Zilla Panchayat member, Fr Mahesh D’Souza, Shirva, and Lions Club, member, at Karkala on July 15, Fr Joswey Fernandes, dean, Karkala Deanery, Kristha Raj, DFO, Prakash Poojary, RFO, Fr Anil Cornelio, Parish Priest, Hirgan were present respectively.

Presidents Flyvan D’Souza of Kundapura deanery, Steevan Lewis of Kallianpura deanery, Charles Quadros of Udupi deanery, Melvin Aranha of Shirva deanery, Leo Sequeira and Vinup D’Souza, former president of Karkala deanery ensured the smooth running of the event along with their team.

Elroy Kiran Crasta, former president, also provided his valuable support to this event.

Valerian Fernandes, president, William Machado, former president, Alwyn Quadros, designated president, Leena Menezes, vice president, Jacintha Colaco, secretary, Mable Nazareth, joint secretary, Soloman Alwares, treasurer, Mary D’Souza, joint treasurer, John Sequeira, internal auditor  with their spiritual director Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves had organized the event.
