Kasargod, Jul 28: “The youth has the responsibility to preserve ancient art. A sincere effort is necessary with the use of modern technology to preserve the art forms and pass them on to the next generation. It is inevitable to give new life to Yakshagana puppetry which is hiding behind the scene after meeting storm of modernity. It is appropriate that the history and cultural values are being portrayed through documentary,” opined young director Dhandeep Krishna.
He expressed his opinion in front of five second year degree students of Kottayam's K R Narayanan national institute of Visual Science and Arts College who are stationed in Kasargod for the last one week for the shooting of Yakshagana puppetry documentary film.
Dhandeep Krishna who saw the art of Yakshagana puppetry in youtube was stunned with the beauty of the art. He realized that though the art is a Janapada art form by origin, the improved art is richer than other arts.
He reached Kasargod in order to record it. He started shooting for the documentary after meeting and obtaining the suggestions and help from Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha director and chief mastermind K V Ramesh.
The mother of Dhandeep Krishna hails from Kasargod by origin. She had heard about Yaskahagana and seen the reports of puppetry in the media obtaining information about Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha which has competed in international level and received awards. When the team reached Kasargod, Ramesh and his mother Girija Venkatakrishnayya welcomed it and provided hospitality.
The like-minded class mates have been executing their responsibility with dedication and patience. Relatives and friends have extended monetary help for the documentary. The 45-minute long documentary will be completed in two months. The troupe completed shooting at Yakshaputhali Bombemane, Madhooru, Kanipura, Shedikavu and Bekalakote.
They visited resource persons in different fields and collected opinions. K V Ramesh's brother K V Thirumalesh, K V Sudarshan, Anish Pilikunje, journalist Radhakrishna Uliathadka, organizers Jagadish Koodlu, Guruprasad Kotekani, artistes K N Venkatramana Holla, Balakrishna Pernadka and others have helped in shooting the film.
