Udupi, Aug 2: It was not a rescue operation, but a live demonstration by trained cadets of scouts and guides, rangers and rovers that was held on Alevoor ground near Pragati Nagara on Monday August 1.

The operation was held with the help of the fire department, home guards, health department and the police.

Students along with health department staff performed rescue operations.

Creating a mock scene for a bomb blast during a Kabbaddi game, the students were taught how to bring the situation under control with first aid, extinguishing a fire, mob control by placing barricades at the scene of trouble. Injured hands were identified through red and green ribbons tied to their hands.

The students also showcased, the role of police personnel during an emergency and how to make use of the golden minute after the incident.

Vulnerability, food supply for the affected people, building confidence among them, protection during an incident and so on were also part of the demonstration.

Fire service representatives demonstrated a fire incident using a fire extinguisher, sand and water.

The five days of Mysuru division level natural disaster management training and Swacchata Andolan camp were organized by Bharat Scouts and guides, Karnataka.

Nearly 200 students from 10 to 20 districts arrived all the way to witness this demonstration.

H M Vasanth Kumar, DFO, Dr Prabhat Kalkur, IFRC member, Edwin Alva, district scout commissioner, Rajalaxmi D Shetty, district guides commissioner, Kogga Ganiga, district trainer and others were present.
