Bengaluru, Aug 3: The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here, which held trial in a case of alleged loss of Rs 4.16 crore caused to the government by income tax officers, has passed an order, sentencing two high ranking officials of the department to five years of imprisonment each and imposing a fine of Rs 7.5 lac.
Former additional commissioner of the department here, Dheerendra Kumar Jha, and deputy commissioner, U A Chandramouli had reportedly caused a loss of Rs 4.16 crore to the government by joining hands with an organization named Children's Education Society.
The CBI officers had filed this case on September 26, 2008. Charge sheets were filed after completing investigation, under sections 120 (B), 218, and 420 of Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act sections 13 (2), and 13 (1) D. The court which conducted hearing found that the charges have been proved, and passed an order handing down jail sentences and imposing fines as above to the two accused.
