Kolar, Aug 3: A woman from Veerlagollahalli within the limits of Hirebidanur gram panchayat in Gauribidanur taluk of the district died after consuming tablets meant for abortion given by her lover. The youth, who had continued to have relationship with the girl even after his marriage, had reportedly brought the tablets meant for aborting her pregnancy from Bengaluru.
Seeking justice, family of the girl held protest by placing the body of their daughter, Geetha (20), in front of the house of the youth. The paramour, identified as Naresh, fled from the village along with family members.
Naresh and Geeta from the village were in love with each other since a year. The families realized that their lives will be full of complications if they marry each other, because of caste divide. At the advice of the parents, Naresh had married another girl nine months back. His wife happens to be three months pregnant now.
Naresh continued to have relationship with Geetha after his marriage. She too was in the third month of her pregnancy, and after Naresh came to know about it last week, he had brought some tablets from Bengaluru for aborting her pregnancy. Geetha consumed these tablets on July 30 and fell sick. Although she was admitted into hospital, she could not be saved.
The police have since arrested Naresh and booked him for caste abuse and murder. Deputy superintendent of police, Purushotham, police circle inspector, M V Sheshadri, and sub-inspectors, Avinath and Nayaz Baig, visited the spot and undertook investigation.
