Kundapur, Aug 5: After coming to know that a woman from Kharvikery here was trying to sell off her children to pool money for securing release of her husband on bail, members of Anti Child Trafficking Committee extended financial assistance to the woman.
A Brahmavar-based lady has been staying in a rented house at Kharvikery here. Her husband has been named as an accused in a murder case. To put together money needed to get bail for her husband, the woman was desperately trying to sell her children.
After they came to know about it, leaders of the said committee visited her and impressed on her to change her mind. The woman refused to accompany them, but requested to help her to get her husband released on bail. The activists, who pooled donations from different persons, handed over Rs 26,000 in cash to the woman in the presence of station house officer of the police station here, Nassir Hussain.
President of the committee, Gunaratna, Ravikala Ganesh, Children's Welfare Committee activist, Usha K, and others were present.
