Chikkamagaluru, Aug 5: Two LKG students died while about ten students suffered injuries after the wheels of a school bus got stuck in soft mud and the vehicle toppled. The accident occurred at Hebbur near Narayanapura in Ajjampura revenue division of Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday August 4 evening.

Preetham, a four-year-old child of Pramod and Poornima couple from Hirenallur village and LKG student, was killed on the spot as the rod of the window banged against his head, it is gathered. Another LKG student, identified as Chaya, also breathed her last. Ten other students sustained injuries of varying degrees. While seriously injured children were taken to Shivamogga, others are being treated in different hospitals. A few whose injuries were insignificant were treated at primary health centre, Ajjampura.

The ill-fated bus was carrying students of Sandeepani Public School, Hanne village, to their homes. Reportedly, the driver of the school bus swerved the bus to the side of the road when trying to allow another bus coming from the opposite direction to pass. However, the wheels of the bus got buried deep into the soft soil that was laid on both sides of the road and then tumbled.

The locals rushed to help the children. Deputy commissioner of the district, Satyavati G, visited Ajjampura, consoled the shocked parents, and inspected the spot of accident. Books, school bags, tiffin boxes, water bottles, books etc were found scattered at the spot.

A report about the accident was filed in Ajjampura police station. The police have begun investigation into the incident.

RIP.It is so unfortunate and heart wrenching. Two Precious lives of unblossomed, innocent children have been lost and ten students were injured, a major blow to their parents in particular and family members.
I extend my heartfelt condolence to the parents of deceased children and praying Almighty God to grant an eternal peace to the departed souls and bestow enough strength, energy, tolerance, patience, wisdom to the parents in particular and family members in general to come out from this irreparable grief ,loss and tragedy and revert their life back to normal. I also pray God for the speedy recovery of the injured children.
It is happening all because of non-adherence to the traffic rule, poor maintenance of the vehicles and reckless and rude driving attitude of the drivers at the cost of poor children/people. No one to question and put a brake on this.” ಆಳಿದ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಉಳಿದವನೇ ರಾಜ ಎಂಬಂತೆ”. Here parent’s role also being questioned.
What I suggest is periodic check on vehicles condition, on overloading the students beyond the capacity of the vehicles, on proper documentation such as Insurance of the vehicles, driving license of the driver, emission certificate, behavioral and attitude and approach of the driver etc to be checked compulsorily. These things should be made always mandatory to avert any future accidents like this to maximum extent.
But one thing, traffic inspectors, officials should not be after Rs 100/=Rs 200/=when errant drivers and violators are caught red handed. This thirst should be kept aside.
Vehicles found to be unfit for the travel should be discarded without any consideration and sympathy. License of the drunken driver should be cancelled. Educational and family background should be taken into consideration at the time of appointment of any driver in the best interest of safeguarding the precious lives of the people, who are travelling in the vehicles.
If we take all these precautions, rest will be on our fate/destiny

Shekar Moily Padebettu, you spent so much time to respond to this heart breaking incident and brought so many best practices to be adopted. Unfortunately, none of the authorities and officers are bothered about such incidents. When ever such disaster happens we discuss so many things... I also used to write so many solutions , recommendations... unfortunately till now zero adoption by the authorities. it's face and fate.

very unfortunate...Sad to know this....but we Indians never fight for a good cause, instead of fighting for some silly issue why don't we join hands (All so called religious group) to get better roads, better infrastructure. i am sure if people join hand these contractors will do a proper job with the fear....get those contractors to justice for not doing proper roads they are responsible for these unfortunate events.....

it should be a proud moments for the authorities and officers who are employed to take care of the public on infrastructure. For now sin or mistake of the kids, they paid their lives. It's one of the case, there are so many instances in and around of cities where such disasters can occur any time. trust the holy souls rested in eternal peach

Reportedly, the driver of the school bus swerved the bus to the side of the road when trying to allow another bus coming from the opposite direction to pass.
was this bus driving recklessly the driver should be sued and not allowed to come out on bail. innocent children lost their lives and that too so painful.
