Puttur, Aug 7: In connection with the incident in which a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus that was parked in the private bus stand here was torched during Tippu Jayanti disturbances, the police have arrested a Bajrang Dal activist. His arrest was made on the night of Friday August 5 from near the bus stand here.
Jayant from Kunjoorpanja in Aryapu village in the taluk was arrested. The police are on the lookout for the other accused, Prajval from Nekkila in Bannur here.
Both Jayant and Prajval reportedly are engaged in aluminium fabrication work here. On the night of November 12, 2015, which happened to be Tipu Jayanti day, a KSRTC bus was torched. During his questioning, Jayant reportedly told the police that he ignited fire in the bus to make the bandh call given the next day in protest against Tipu Jayanti incidents more affective.
It is said that the accused, after work, were returning home, when they came near the temple here and stopped the two-wheeler. Prajval then went away and brought petrol. They then went to private bus stand, and after ensuring that no one was looking, poured petrol on the bus and torched it, the accused told the police.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of assistant superintendent of police, Rishavanth, city police inspector, Mahesh Prasad, and sub-inspector, Abdul Khader.
