Tumakuru, Aug 7: A stone edict, which is said to belong to the era of Kempegowda's rule, was found from Huchchamastigowda Circle in the town.

At the said circle, petrol bunk has been vacated for helping road expansion. A stone slab which was found to be creating problems for traffic was moved aside and kept by the side of the bus stand. On Saturday August 6 morning, veteran sculptor, Narasimhamurtachar, and leader, Ramanna, identified the stone to be a stone edict.

After the people came to know about it, they assembled there, washed the stone slab with water, offered flower garland to it, and performed puja. Tahsildar, K Ramesh, visited the spot and took the edict into possession. In the stone slab, apart from written material in ancient Kannada script, pictures of sun, moon, dog, Lord Anjaneya and some other objects have been found.

In the recent past, a stone edict which mentions about Kunigal had been found at Kempapura near Magadi. Therefore, the locals feel that this edict may be belonging to Kempegowda's period.

The officials propose to write to the archeological department to study the edict.
