Mangaluru: Failed attempt of theft at Sashihitlu temple

Mangaluru, Aug 9: An attempt was made to burgle Goddess Bhagawati temple, Sasihitlu near Suratkal in the early hours of Sunday August 7.

The thieves entered the inner precincts of the temple through the northern side of the outer compound, and then broke open the lock and bolt of the sanctum sanctorum. However, they could not properly open the door of the sanctum sanctorum that was secured with a chain. Then they tried unsuccessfully to crawl under the door and reach inside to steal valuables from there.

The CCTV footage obtained from camera installed inside the temple premises shows that at around 1 am, bearded thieves wearing masks to theirr faces and gloves in hands and holding umbrellas covering their faces, had made the theft attempt. One of the thieves stood guard outside while the others went inside. After flashing light on the CCTV camera, they severed the power connection to it.

Assistant police commissioner (crime), Sanjeev Patil, visited the spot and inspected the scene. He asked the concerned to arrange for two night watchmen and also volunteers for night patrol besides fixing of alarm system. Finger print experts also visited the temple,
