Puttur: Tanker falls into Kumaradhara River, people told not to use water

Puttur, Aug 9: A tanker carrying gas belonging to HPCL Company fell into Kumaradhara River at around 3 pm on Tuesday, August 9. There was no casualty.

The accident happened at Udane in Shiradi village near Uppinangadi when the driver of the tanker applied brakes to avoid an accident on the bridge. The bullet part the tanker fell into river while the engine is part on the road.

Rishyanth, Puttur additional superintendent of police has informed that water from the river should not be used for the next 6 to 8 hours.

Fire and emergency services have reached the place.

Electricity connection in the area has been disconnected. As the liquid petroleum has been leaked into the river, Puttur municipality has been told not to lift water from Nekkilady until further orders.

The traffic on the road has been totally affected.

    The work of gas pipeline to Bangalore should be completed quickly so that the people of Uppinangady and shirady side may not suffer with such accidents. Govt. and DC Mangalore has to ban HPCL as now all of us suffer due to non-supply of drinking water.

    We need a better road transport policy and on an urgent basis observe the rickety truck constructed at a local garage with absolutely no safety features, the govt should insist on OEM manufactured tankers to transport such sensitive goods

    May be it was better tanker fell into water.suppose it had exploded on road ,what could have happen?cant imagine the effect.Why so many tankers are involved in accidents?May be this particular tanker was not properly fixed?otherwise how it can detach all of a sudden by break?They should be controlled from time time.Thank God noone got injured.But fish etc will be effected from this Petroleum gas.

    First of all it is very essential and need of the hour to install electronic speed governors on all petro tankers and Udupi-Mangaluru express buses. both violate every traffic and permit rules with impunity!. Secondly, LPG will not mix with water and water can be used safely without problems!. Don't know why responsible people issue wrong instructions!?

    There should be no entry for tankers in interior roads where they try to take short cuts. They must use NH & state highways only. Also there should be designated parking areas for tankers.
