Bengaluru, Aug 12: State home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, said that vacancy of 20,158 posts of police constables in the state would be filled through fresh appointments before the end of March next year. "Once these vacancies are filled, the state will get full time service of one lac police constables," he explained.

"In the first phase, 6,000 constables were appointed, out of which 2,000 are under training. All of them will report for duties in September, followed by others in later days. In the second phase, notification for appointing 6,610 constables had been issued, and written examination and physical fitness verification have been completed for the applicants. The finance department has given its nod for appointment of 7,548 constables in the third phase. All these posts will be filled before March 2017," the minister said.

Parameshwar said that out of the new recruits, 2,500 people will be provided to the city police and traffic division to meet their requirement. He stated that henceforth, three to four thousand constables would be appointed annually for three years to fill vacancies created by retirement and promotions.

The minister also said that 889 sub-inspectors vacancies would be got filled through Karnataka Public Service Commission. "For the first time ever, 60 sub-inspectors who are provided modern training would be appointed to intelligence and criminal investigation departments. Out of 889, 260 are under the process of appointment process, while notification has been issued for the remaining 629 posts," he said. In reply to a query he said that the state has recommended to Union Public Service 'commission to upgrade 30 officers in police service in the state to IPS category.
