Puttur Aug 14: A woman from near Kadaba has approached the court here with the complaint that she is being physically and mentally tortured by her husband and father-in-law, demanding to bring additional dowry.

Rahamath, resident of Koila village, in her complaint filed in JMFC court here, has named her tormentors as husband, Muhammed Shariff, and father-in-law, Moidu Kunhi.

Rahamath had married Muhammed from Idkidu village in Bantwal taluk on June 12 this year. After two months of marriage, Shariff reportedly started to pressurize her to bring dowry from her parents. As she failed to meet this demand, he regularly inflicted physical and mental torture on her along with his father, it is said.

When Rahamath had been to her parental home, Shariff reportedly came there and placed demand for ten lac rupees in the form of dowry. He also demanded Rahamath to give her consent for his second marriage if she is not able to bring dowry. When she refused, he threatened her and attacked her, she has stated.

After a complaint was filed in this respect in the court, the court asked the Kadaba police to register the case. Kadaba police have registered the case, duly naming Muhammed Shariff and Moidu Kunhi as accused.
