M'luru: Yuvaka Sangha distributes aids for children on I-Day

Mangaluru, Aug 15: The Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha with the help of its donors distributed various aids to the school children of Ashoknagar higher primary school as a part of the 70th Independence Day celebration, here on Monday August 15.

The aids included school uniform to 95 school children, a wheel-chair, a bicycle, financial aids to five people for the medical treatment of ailments.

The items were donated in memory of the late Cyril D’Souza and the late Agnes D’Souza by their son Henry D'Souza and brothers and in memory of the late Lawrence Mathias and the late Mary Mathias by their son Joseph Mathias.

The program was inaugurated by Philomena D'souza spouse of the donor Henry D'souza while the  program was presided over by Henry D’Souza, Merrit Freight Systems Company LLC.

The chief guest of the program was veteran compere and anchor Leslie Rego. Speaking on the occasion he said “The politicians divide us in the name of caste, creed, religion and political parties. In this context, we have to support the organisations like Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha who reach out to the needy irrespective of the caste and religion through their service. It is a noble deed by Joseph Mathias and Henry D'souza for rendering their kind-hearted donations through the Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha.”

Henry D'souza, in his presidential address said, “I still remember the day we began this deed in a small way in 1998 in Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha premises. Many organisations come and go but Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha has been serving the people of the city from the last 54 years. Today we must think of the soldiers who are paroling the borders of the country in drastic situations. We salute them and covey my wishes to all the school children and the members of Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha.”

Assistant general manager of SCDCC bank Ashok Kumar and president of Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha, Shankar N Poonja, sports secretary Srinivas Poonja also spoke on the occasion.

Chetan Kumar welcomed the gathering while B Srinivas rendered the vote of thanks. Office bearer of Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha compered the program.
