Modi congratulates Rio medallist Sakshi Malik

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated wrestler Sakshi Malik who clinched bronze on Wednesday to give India its first medal at the on going Olympics in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.

"Sakshi Malik creates history! Congratulations to her for the Bronze. The entire nation is rejoicing," Modi tweeted.

Sakshi, 23, brought an end to India's long medal wait, when every hopeful had failed one by one.

In another tweet, the prime minister said: "On this very auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, Sakshi Malik, a daughter of India, wins a Bronze & makes all of us very proud."

Sakshi clinched the bronze in the Women's Freestyle 58kg category with a spirited comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.

If Olympics includes games like corruption, moral policing, red tapism, gender bias, gender abuse, extreme religious superstitions, lavish weddings etc...who will be the gold medalist?

Modi never misses a chance of marketing himself. He knew exactly some news papers will print his tweet on the coverpage and the Riomedallist somewhere down the page.

He knew how to get the medals when he was running around and fooling people in election rallies. He applied nothing, changed nothing and given no additional resources. From where the medals can come? Besides, officials and ministers going along with the athletes are in beaches and partying. Such is the deshbhakti. Give a break.

It is sure that the bashanas are of no use. Before his Bashana in the year 2012 London Olympic games India got 6 medals (2 silver and 4 bronze). Can we say this is the effect of useless bashana.

Sakshi comes from Haryana, which is against girl child. Most of the girls are not even given a chance to survive and during marriage time these fanatics get girls from other States.

Sakshi has proved these fanatics what and Indian woman is worth. A tight slap and big kick to these so called cultural fanatics.

Once again Cheers Sakshi!! God Bless!!

Congratulation Sakshi !! you made us Indians proud.

Finally one medal for India, one of the highest populated countries in the world because there is absolute no support from govt for sportsmen lots of red tapism in sports. IT is only hardwork and spirit of Sportsmen to achieve their dreams and trainers who support them that we are able to get a medal for INdia. Pvt sponsors only after cricketers. Be it Mary Kom, Bindra, Dipa Karmakar, any sportsmen you name. Thumbs down to Govt of India.

While the 'true super powers'continue their dominance in Rio as well, we the so called 'super power in the making' with a population of 125 Cr have to be content with a bronze. Our achievements/glory can only be admired/celebrated on silver screen watching films like Lagan, Chak de, Sultan etc.. Movies do provide a means to escape from reality, in our context especially. Of course some pseudo patriots disagree claiming 40% NASA scientists and CEOs of global IT majors are of Indian origin!

Now who’s claiming NASA scientists/CEOs waste time commenting? It seems you have trouble understanding plain English and you DO seem to have all the time in the world to comment /respond to comments on these petty issues.
