Udupi: Fishing boat capsizes - fisherman killed

Udupi, Aug 18: A fisherman lost his life after the fishing boat for which he was working capsized near Pandarinatha Bhajana Mandir near Thottam, Malpe.

Shekhar Kunder (58), resident of Thottam Bobbaryakatte in Badinidiuyur village lost his life in this tragedy. He had left Malpe shore on Wednesday in the boat, 'Jahnavi' owned by Janardana Tingalaya, along with several other fishermen. When engaged in fishing, the boat was hit by strong wind and waves, as a result of which it overturned.

While the other fishermen succeeded in swimming to safety, Shekhar Kunder could not. He was brought out of water and provided initiial treatment at the district government hospital here. When he was being taken to KMC Hospital Manipal for further treatment, he died.
