Modi has time to talk about Balochistan, but not for Dalits: Congress

New Delhi, Aug 21 (IANS) : Gujarat Congress leaders on Sunday submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee highlighting "atrocities" against Dalits in the state, and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "having the time to think about people of Balochistan" but turning a "blind eye towards the suffering of Dalits" in his home state.

Demanding a time-bound action against the perpetrators, the Gujarat Congress leaders also sought the President's intervention in the matter.

The delegation included Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bharatsinh Solanki, Congress president's Political Secretary Ahmed Patel, Congress legislature party leader Shankar Sinh Vaghela, and AICC General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry.

"The Prime Minister has time to acknowledge the suffering of people in Balochistan but it is unfortunate that he and his party have turned a blind eye to the suffering of the marginalized and underprivileged in his home state," Gujarat PCC chief Bharatsinh Solanki said.

"We have apprised him (the President) of the rise in social terror in Gujarat, a phenomenon that has manifested over the past 18 years of BJP rule. The atrocities in Una is not an exception but the norm. And the fact that even after the Una incident shook the nation's conscience, atrocities against Dalits still continue with impunity shows the extreme insensitivity embedded in the Gujarat administration," he added.

Solanki said: "He (Prime Minister) spoke eloquently over rogue cow vigilantes but did not tell us how as Chief Minister he encouraged the very business of such vigilantes. For a party whose ideology is based on dividing society, we have no hope that they will take any serious action to erase the deep fault lines in Gujarat."

Congress leaders also requested Mukherjee to intervene in the matter through the Governor of the state.

"We have come to seek the protection of the President and have urged him to use his good offices and issue relevant directions to the administration," said Solanki.

Another congress leader salman kurshid visites pakinstan & give a press conference on India Pak peace talk says Pak is flying white pigeons for peace & India is shooting them. He appreciated Nawaz sharif & criticise Modi. Rahul supported JNU case where student shouted slogan against india over Kashmir. Digvijay singh statement of india occupied Kashmir. Days back Ramyas statement about Pakistan. All these shows congress thought about India. Who devided India & created Kashmir issue?

Whatever might be said about Modi's statement, it has send shockwaves throughout Pakistan.
Most of the TV channels in Pakistan are discussing the same, even after 6 days. Even tonight's debate on Dawn TV is on the same issue.

After Indira Gandhi's adventure on freeing Bangla, Modi's statement was the most daring and threatening one in the recent times.

MODI NEVER TALK FOR DALITS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE HE HAS SEEN ALL SECTOR /RELIGION/COMMUNITIES EQUALLY.
VOTE BANK POLITICS IS CONGRESS CULTURE ALL THESE 60 YEARS AND THEY NEVER CHANGE.

wow... what an answer. hats off. This Congress lived their entire life talking about caste, religion... always talk about minorities, Dalits... Never saw India as a country and Indians as one. that's why they can not digest when a PM never talks about caste, religion. shame on these people. Hope very soon we will see a clean sweep of this party for India. then only whole India can grow and we the Indians can live in Harmony. All the communal issues will end if this party is made to sit at a corner or chased off from this country.

@ Hemanth - Let me politely remind you that J&K was peaceful and normalcy restored during the rule of Congress-NC alliance.

BJP and pro-pak PDP have destabilized J&K and the state is going down hill as bjp is clearly inefficient.

India should be careful about commenting on the sectarian communities in neighboring or foreign Nation because India itself created from hundreds of Independent princely states, cultures, Languages and grate organized religions like Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, Jain, Farsi, Christian etc,. We do not want to disintegrate like Pre-British divided India.

    Dear Rahul/Mangalore,
He has clearly mentioned as "great organized religions". By looking at the disturbing incidents like killing & beating the innocents in the name of Cow Rakshan happening all over the country created by your fanatic Hindu outfits, I don't think writer did something wrong by not mentioning your religion. Remember one thing because of some of these few communal hindu outfits, the name of such a peace loving Hindu religion is getting spoiled and most of our Hindu brothers and sisters are saddened by such communal and criminal acts. It is better you go and tell the leaders of such outfits to stop such evil acts so that once again we can live with peace and harmony like before.

However, PM Modi's talk about Balochistan is right in terms of Pakistan's talk about Kashmir, it shouldn't be equated with atrocities on Dalits.
