Kundapur, Aug 22: “In the name of cow protection, an atmosphere of fear has been created in the nation. Those who take up law into their hands assaulting and killing people causing unrest in society should be severely dealt with,” said Udupi Chikkamagluru former youth Congress vice-president Amrith Shenoy.
He was speaking after participating in protest held by block Congress Kundapur and Youth Congress Kundapur at Kundapur Shastri circle on Monday, August 22.
He also condemned the murder of Praveen Poojary, a resident of Brahmavar Kenjooru by 'Gau rakshaks'.
“Such incidents started in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh and now have spread in our state. It has also come to Udupi causing the brutal murder of innocent youth. The inhuman atmosphere is created at a time when human values should be upheld. We condemn it,” he said.
“Beef is being consumed in some states. Though it is not being opposed for political purposes, a strong stand in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra that it should not be consumed is being taken up. Congress party however upholds the freedom towards food habits, clothing and culture."
“BJP and Sangh pariwar indulging in moral policing against it has created a situation of panic and unrest in society. As Congress is in power in Karnataka, we are confident that the government will take action against the guilty.”
“Backward class and poor youth become victims in religious matters. Upper class is trying to dominate them. Therefore it is necessary to create awareness among people. The protection of poor youth is the purpose of these protests,” he added.
