Cabinet approves surrogacy regulation bill


New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS): Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Surrogacy Regulation bill, 2016, which aims to regulate surrogacy and safeguard the rights of surrogate mothers.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, briefing the media, said the bill aims to curb commercial surrogacy in the country. The bill also aims to regulate the parentage of children born from surrogacy.
