Nirbhaya rape convict Vinay Sharma attempts suicide inside Tihar jail

New Delhi, Aug 25 (Agencies) : Vinay Sharma, a convict in the December 16, 2012 Delhi gangrape case on Wednesday attempted suicide inside the Tihar jail. He has been moved to a hospital where he is receiving medical assistance, news agency ANI reported. His condition was not immediately known.

Sharma, along with three others, had approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s 2014 verdict that observed their offence to be rarest of rare. The verdict upheld the death sentence awarded by the trial court. The three other convicts are Mukesh, Pawan and Akshay Kumar Singh.

On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic was fatally assaulted and gangraped by six persons in a moving bus in south Delhi and thrown out of the vehicle on that night.

She had died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.

One of the accused, Ram Singh, was found dead in a cell in Tihar Jail in March 2013 and proceedings against him were abated.

On August 31, 2013, another accused — a juvenile at the time of the crime — was convicted and sentenced to three years in a reformation home. He was released from the observation home in December last year.

Just Imagine, six animals like the one above raped one young girl !! I am sad that one of most cruel animal got minimum punishment, saying juvenile by our authorities. Same juvenile will be most criminal one day to spoil many many young girls, if is allowed to go free, and more mothers will cry.

He knows very well (at least his conscious)that he deserves death penalty and he wishes this to be executed at the earliest. He also knows judicial proceedings in India take it's own time and at times when verdict is eclared, convict is not available as he has already left the world forever.
Attempting suicide on himself can be an eye-opener for our law pundits to review and immediately act on improving judicial administration in India.

"He has been moved to a hospital where he is receiving medical assistance"
On humanitarian grounds? These criminals do not deserve sympathy. They deserve only death. Earlier the better. Even prison term needs to meet so many expenses towards food, security, legal proceedings etc.

The main problem is the Supreme Court keeping the appeals pending for an unduly long time. Appeals and representations against death sentences should be disposed off within a specific time frame. Once that is done, the sentence must be executed without delay. These steps can help to minimize the kind of situation that you see today.
