Udupi, Aug 29: “Cow protectors should open byres to look after old and weak cows. They should not be killing and harassing people in the name of cow protection, “ said district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Sunday, August 28.
He was speaking in a meeting held at Narayana Guru hall in the leadership of Billava community to condemn the death of Kenjur Praveen Poojary.
“I will try honestly to get compensation from the government for the family of Praveen Poojary.” Madhwaraj added.
“Humanity was killed with Praveen Poojary. Unfortunately his death was not condemned by political leaders in strong terms. Before teh conflicts like these reach greater levels, we need to get up, unite and act against these types of incidents.” said Harikrishna Bantwal in main speech.
“Let us walk on the path of righteousness shown by Swamy Vivekananda and Narayana Guru. Let their lives be inspiration to us. “he added.
Kaup MLA Vinaya Kumar Sorake, Byndoor MLA Gopala Poojary, MLC Kota Srinivasa Poojary, former MLA Raghupati Bhat also spoke on the occasion and condemned the death.
A resolution was passed in the meeting demanding compensation from the government.
A collection was made from the gathered people and Rs 1,69,000 was collected including Rs 50,500 personal contribution from MLA Gopala Poojary. The collected amount was handed over to the family of Praveen Poojary.
