Udupi, Aug 30: A woman, who is a former vice president of panchayat, has complained at Udupi women’s police station on Tuesday August 30, regarding indecent behaviour by an auto driver.
The incident took place at Saligrama on Monday, August 29.
Nagaraja Ganiga is the accused. Sulatha Hegde is the complainant.
Sulatha Hegde had gone with panchayat president Vasumathi Nayiri to check the road repair work that was taking place on the one way road near the bus stop on national highway. Nagaraja Ganiga, who was watching the women, made some obscene gesture. Sulatha watched this and asked Nagaraja about it, an argument erupted between them. At this time, he used very abusive language against her. He fled from the place in hurry but after clicking her photo and making unpleasant remarks, says the complaint.
The complaints stands registered under atrocity against women.
It is also said that when the complaint was being handled, some political leaders taking the side of Nagaraja Ganiga, phoned the women’s police station to go lenient on the case. Hence the process was delayed at the police station and when Sulatha initiated to phone V S Ugrappa the chairman of expert committee on prevention of sexual violence against women and children, the police registered the case.
Nagaraja Ganiga was taken into custody by the police after that.
Sulatha has also mentioned in the complaint that Nagaraja Ganiga is the husband of Ratna Ganiga the member of Saligrama town panchayat. The complaint also says that Nagaraja has misbehaved with Sulatha several times in the past because of her political rivalry with his wife.
