Mangaluru: Illegal petty shops under Kuntikana flyover evicted

Mangaluru, Sep 3: Illegal petty shops which were operating under Kuntikana flyover were evicted on Saturday, September 3.

Revenue office Praveen, health officer Manjayya with other officials participated in the raid.

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has been acting strictly against illegal shops for the past one month. Shops without renewed licences were also targeted in the recent past.

    If I remember correctly , the same things happened some time back and the corporation removed/destroyed these so called unauthorized petty shops. Now again redoing the same thing. What next???. Is there is any permanent solution for this. Are they going to provide any alternative livelihood to the people and family of the shops they removed??. Finally what they will do with the empty space beneath the flyover?. Will it for some time later give rise to petty shops again or give rise to the dirty place for throwing garbage?. Let them develop it as a small garden. Give it to some multinational company/Banks to maintain. Also I request the concerned to arrange alternative livelihood to the people who had the petty shops so that their family dont suffer. Live and let live. They are poor people want to live by doing this petty shop business. Encourage and give them a chance to do their business in some other place . Let us make our Mangalore a place for all.

    they are wrong. bcz so many families are living with that footpath shops. for ex a reach man recharges for his mob more then 500rs. company can give him extra talk time. but same time a poor recharges his mobile rs 30. in that tax and all. then getting 21 rs only. in this country opportunity s for rich people only. not for poors...

    Tiger should roar frequently and not once in a bluemoon. Thats why thay are established. Moreover they indulge in illegal activities like selling Ganja, and other items. Meantime provide alternative place for genuine ones.

    Revenue officer Praveen, health officer Manjayya, what about the shops near the Central Market area who use the footpath to keep their stock of merchandise. This makes it difficult for the pedestrians to walk, specially the senior citizens, ladies. The corporation should look into it and not allow these shops to use the footpath to stack their stock.

    MCC should be very strict if any one starts this type of business must arrest them keep in jail for few days and advise how to start a good business without any hassle. Also bank personal must support and give some loan too.
    TO watch illegal shops you can ask BJP's gang members who do the moral policing....One thing they should not take action but report to MCC and award if they do it.....

    Though I feel pity for the poor vendor, Many of them have made good money. I know a person who made enough of money and bought a shop and rented it out and still selling his stuff on the road.

    Since there are rules set for vending and running businesses, we have to follow the rules.

    Otherwise, chalti ka naam gaadi.

    Hope MCC is only capable of destroying illegal petty shops which dont have the proper trade licenses etc, I do believe that there is more petty shops around which are creating problems especially in statebank & Ladygoschen Junctions but here near Kuntikana i wont see any encroach or any reason of traffic blocks due to these Pety shops,Canteens(Demolished Today).Here Poor was Feeding Poor in the sense with good rate & Quality ,But if MCC have issued them the Notice and they have failed to answer that or apply for a trade license than the ride is as per Law,MCC has to bring some good Laws & Rule,Regulations where they can get more income thru these unused or empty spaces like under the flyovers etc .which will drive the beautification of City also ,and Again the high time Question is Why action only on the Petty Shops ,Why only on the Poor Sector ,what about the Illegal shops ,Parkings in the Heart of the City especially in Kankanady,Bejai,Balmatta ,Jyothi Circle Area .why MCC doesn't have that same Dare or Laws upon these Rich builders and Commercial barriers .Where are those Officers when these new building came up with no basement parking encroaching the Public footpaths ,No one speaks even the Opposition Party the So called BJP Members are very much happy with their monthly suitcase for being Blind towards these issues. I say MCC including DC & Police Commissioner to take ride inside the city areas likely Kankanady,KSRTC Bejai,Balmatta,buntshostel,Pvs,MG Road,Jyothi Circle & Statebank and demolish one new building which have Occupied the Public (sorry) MCC space like Footpaths and drains without allotting parking facilities in basement and renting them to commercial shops .Hope I wont get the Answer for this very soon or latter but my Daijiworld readers group can understand where we Mangalorians are heading.....

    No one enjoys the difficulty faced by fellow citizens. However, a City must be looked after by its Administration same as parents do for their kids. It is imperative. Otherwise we will see another Dharavi, Andheri, Jogeshwari in Mangalore. Footpaths in Mumbai are used for Vada-Pav, Belpuri, coconut water sellers. Let us not allow this to happen in Mangalore. If there is any help NGO's can render to these illegal shop owners, by all means the same should be provided.

    MOST OF THESE PETTY SHOP OWNERS ARE MALLU S OR TAMIL PEOPLE.
    Local people are not running shops like this .
    So its right to remove them from wherever they are doing petty shops .

    I support illegal petty shops under Kuntikana flyover eviction.

    This gives nuisance to commuters and to the surroundings.

    Own your own shop legally.

    The corporation officials are also corrupt. To get licence and to renew licence they take corruption. Otherwise blame one or the other disciplinary action against the shop owners.

    Under the bridge corporation is not giving licence for trading.

    Police personnel are taking Haptha that is the reason this trading is flourishing under the bridge.

    Feeling sad looking at the pics.. I am sure all sellers are doing this just to support and feed their families by earning little money when they have no choice to make it legally.
    Hope the officials given them enough warnings before they have been kicked out.
    Government should give them alternative options so that their families will not suffer for one time food.

    Even i would like to open a store in hampankatta. iT doesn't mean i have to encroach govt. land, giving an ugly look to the city.

    cooley bele 9.30 to 4-30 and one and half hour lunch time, half an hour tea time and the maximum work 5 hours in a day and cooley Rs.500/- which is far far better than Gulf countries.

    They consider themselves a privileged class, encroaching public land, non payment of dues and taxes and making money. Most disappointing and irritating issue is they dirty the place all around with no proper garbage collection.

    You are right JJ. The place under the flyover is used, abused and is filthy and stinking. Food is served which in many cases is cooked on the spot including fish, under unhygienic conditions, loads of plates are washed in one two buckets of water throughout the day, guys serving food attend natures call but do not wash their hands,and come back and serve food with the same hands, there is no water, no toilets, garbage is thrown here and there. Believe me these guys at least several of them of those having shops under Kuntikan flyover are owning mini vans, tempos, and scooters besides having a turn over in thousands of rupees and in my opinion considered not poor as they appear to be. Most of all there is no MRP, they do not pay tax like others and are doing much better than the nearby licensed shop owners who are also not well off, but pay, yearly deposit and rent to their landlords, also pay tax, electricity water bills, follow MRP and incur other expenses with a turn over which is much lesser than the street vendors. They couldn't care less for Swatch Bharath. We the residents of the area are very familiar and eye witnesses. These are all genuine facts and eye witness details.
