Mangalore Dec 11: A freak accident occurred at about 1.30 in the afternoon, midway between Shivabagh and Nanthoor when a cement-laden lorry fell on the side portion of a house located near the Kadri Toll Gate on Monday December 10.

The cement-laden lorry was slowly moving up on the steep road with the heavy load towards Nanthoor, when suddenly the driver found some problem with engine of the vehicle. So he decided to reverse and park the vehicle on the side of the road.

Unfortunately, when the driver while maneuvering the vehicle to take a reverse turn was unable to correctly access the rear location. Thereby, he lost control over the vehicle, which then fell unto a low-lying house in the area completely damaging a major portion of the frontal side, which happened to be the kitchen of the said house.

The house belonged to one Benedict D"Souza and his family. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this mishap but it did cause some damage to the house, which would now need urgent repairs. According to one eyewitness this is the second such incident happening on the same house. More then 25 years back in a similar incident, a vehicle had fallen on the same house causing extensive damage on its side.
