Mangaluru, Sep 10: As per information, police from city have succeeded in getting leads about main accused who were behind posting profane material about Kateel temple Goddess Durgaparameshwari sometime back on the internet. It is said that the police initially arrested a person and from him, got information about other offenders involved with this heinous task.
The arrested person is from Chikkamagaluru. Other than that, the police are not agreeable to provide additional information about him. Sources said that the arrested man is not the main accused. However, it is said that the main accused, currently living abroad, got the task done through him. Police sources said that he has provided several important information to them.
Group based in Gulf
It is said that about 15 persons, who belong to various places from Dakshina Kannada and nearby districts, currently employed in the Gulf countries, have formed a group. Three to four members are active and they get different activities done with the support and cooperation of others. In India, a person from Chikkamagaluru was used as middleman and he got advice to open fake Facebook account and at their advice, he used to post items which hurt religious feelings of others.
It is said that after opening fake Facebook accounts, they used to delete the accounts after keeping it in operation for a couple of days to ensure that their activities remained a secret. It is also said that the accused have formed separate Facebook and WhatsApp groups for exchange information and doing secret activities.
As the accused are working abroad, the central government will have to act. For this, the state government has to take up and pursue the issue with the union government. As the concerned are already aware that their names have been revealed, they may not be easily available for arrest, police believe.
The city police commissioner is personally supervising three teams formed to investigate the issue of posting material that is in poor taste about the Goddess of Kateel.
