Bengaluru: 1 more dies of injuries while escaping lathicharge, toll now 2

Bengaluru, Sep 13 (PTI) : One more person died of injuries he suffered while escaping police lathicharge, as sporadic protests were today reported in the city, where an uneasy calm prevailed, and other parts of Karnataka, a day after Bengaluru was rocked by violence over the raging Cauvery water sharing row with Tamil Nadu.

The toll in the Cauvery stir related violence rose to two with a 30-year old man, who had jumped in panic from a three- storey building while trying to escape police lathicharge, succumbed to multiple injuries this afternoon.

"Kumar, about 30 years old, has died. He was brought to our hospital at 9:30 last night in a critical stage. He is said to have jumped from third floor of a building as he was trying to escape from a lathicharge yesterday," Dr Giridhar, Managing Director of Lakshmi Multi-Speciality Hospital, told PTI.

"He had several injuries on his body like head, facial and pelvic. Both his legs were also fractured," he said.

One person was killed and another injured in police firing in the country's IT capital yesterday after sudden eruption of widespread violence, escalating tensions between the two states.

Curfew, imposed late last night, continued to remain in force in 16 police station limits of the city which is under prohibitory orders till September 14.

A bus that was half burnt yesterday was torched once again today near New Timber layout and another vehicle was also set on fire near Tigalarapalya.

Both had Tamil Nadu registration number plates.

Police lobbed tear gas at Hegganahalli and Pattegarapalaya as protesters tried to burn tyres on the streets, defying curfew.

Police are also conducting combing operations in several sensitive areas and dispersing crowds that are gathering.

Senior police officials said curfew would continue until further orders and would be reviewed this evening.

Sporadic protests have been reported in different parts of the state like Mandya, Chitradurga, Ramanagara and Mysuru.

In Chitradurga, a lorry bearing Tamil Nadu registration number was burnt, while in Ramanagara protesters held demonstrations in front of a farmhouse that reportedly belongs to a daughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

This time violence was only due to utter failure of Law & order when trouble started....There was not one policeman in sight when goons & hooligans under different 'fringe' element groups took law in their own hands...

Entire city was held to ransom by these anti social drunk hooligans. Failure of the Police, Home Minister and the CM

Cauvery issue need to be settled permanently.
Karnataka needs to tell the court that only overflowing water during heavy rains will be released henceforth. No water to be released by opening gates. Tamilnadu need to find its own independent solution no matter what.

Water disputes are not limited to India , it can be seen in many countries in African continent.

Henry this is for you for blaming PM for kaveri issue and want to intervene and solve. Thin kbefore you comment. Do you remember when

    1. When PM called CM meetings, why didn't CM Nidde go then ? He boycotted meeting deliberately. He could have talked about river water there.
    2. When PM invited CM to China along with him for bilateral ties and which could also have helped Karnataka to get investment, why didn't CM go to China ? coz he is BJP's prime minister.
3.When PM Modi asked CM to lead Swach Bharath initiative, why did Nidde deny ? Wasn't it a stupid politics ?
    4. When our own state govt headed by Nidde Maharaj submitted affidavit to supreme court agreeing to leave 10k cusecs everyday what can Modi do ?
5.Based on the affidavit SC has given judgement. Is Modi above SC to question SC judgement ?
    6. It is the drastic failure of legal team of karnataka which has made us to suffer today.

Think before blaming Modi for everything. Your congress leaders are incompetent. During Dalit riots and 2002 riots all you have barked against Modi but why you not blaming Nidde for this situation. This is your hypocrisy.

Alphonso...so BJP government was better? Who sponsored Mangalore church attacks? Who was watching porn in assembly? Who is giving political statements now? Did BJP do any good for Karnataka? Why Central government is silent? Is it not an attempt to malign state government? Open your eyes Alphonso. Don't act like frog in the well. Congress government far more better than BJP. Modi is silent on his corrupt CM's and ministers. What he barked during election rallies? Modi is targeting AAP Government in Delhi through his chela Jung. Now he is trying to do the same to Karnataka. Ultimately who will suffer from this political drama? BJP should be wiped out from Indian political scene. We always blame external terrorism but what about internal terrorism by sanghis and other dals which are sponsored by BJP??? Why don't our MP's in Delhi silent on Cauvery issue? With these stupid tactics BJP trying to get votes in Karnataka. But people are wise and they will not fall prey to these silly traits.

People talk only about BJP's failures. What about CONgress failures? MAJOR scams, Pro Pak, failed governance, spreading FEAR.. All these have reduced CONgress to a laughing stock. Last time I remember you told you don't support any party, so what's this then? Why become furious when something is posted against CONgress? And I wonder when will people here comment using their real names

Ravi Kapu...I am not supporting Congress at any cost. Unlike you. You are a BJP Bhakth. In several posts I have condemned Congress. Here, Alphonso is wrong. So, I had to enlighten him. BJP is equally responsible for this mess as Modi was silent here again. If Central Government is silent then why we need it? Waste of tax payers money for election and all. To be frank, India should go for military rule and shoot at sight for those who indulge in violence. Democracy is not suitable for India.

The situation is like "when Rome was burning ....."! Cauvery is a very dangerous subject, therefore, the politicians (read Siddaramaiah) should have anticipated trouble of the worst kind and should have arrested all anti social elements as preventive measure. Alas! it did not happen. They were waiting for maximum damage and then take action! Did the Supreme Court heed the plea of the State? No. They gave further punishment to K'taka Govt. All this should have been anticipated by all, specially by the Govt. If I look from any angle, I see the fault of the K'taka Govt which was lax and took the situation very lightly until yesterday night. Had they called the RAF very early, a lot of damage could have been avoided. A lot of hooligans also could have been put behind bars. No use of crying over the split milk. Now the K'taka govt must FORCE Mr. Modi to intervene and stop the damage any further.

The picture of burnt buses it clearly says that no control of law & order by the useless Siddu Govt. Protest should be a peaceful & this should be remembered forever, like Gandhi's Non- Violence movement. Looks this is fully political motivated agitation, useless party leaders HD Devegowda,Parameshwara,Sadananda Gowda, KS Eswrappa,Siddu are the main culprits.
