Mangaluru: MCC permission likely to be mandatory for rearing pet dogs

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Sep 14: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has proposed to introduce a rule that those who rear pet dogs should compulsorily obtain a license from the Corporation. The subject will come for discussion in the next council meeting. The new rule will be put into practice if it is approved in the meeting.

The street dogs menace has increased in Panambur, Bunder and Kudroli in city. The Corporation has assigned the work of controlling street dogs to Animal Care trust. However when they go to catch the dog, they are confused whether the dog is street dog or pet dog. The corporation intends to bring about the rule to clear the confusion. The rule will lay down conditions for rearing of dogs.

The control of street dogs by the trust comprises of administering medicine to the dogs twice in a week to prevent reproduction. The trust keeps the dogs with them for ten days after that and later set them free. A mark is made on the ears of such dogs.

The veterinary doctors confirm of treatment to the dogs. The Corporation pays Rs 495 each to the trust for the treatment of the dogs. 1163 dogs have been administered medicine in 2016 till June. Street dogs are found mostly near roadside thrash.

I guess MCC is moving in the right direction. Pet registration, if implemented and followed through, might help in making pet owners responsible and accountable. Abuse and neglect of pets when they are old or ill can be prevented by doing this.

Pet owners who do not have space in their own yards and those who prefer to dirty the streets must be fined like they do in developed countries. Those who live in apartments can train their dogs to use their toilets. There are many responsible citizens who are already doing it in Mangaluru.

However, I do not understand how vaccinating, clipping the ears and leaving the dogs back on the streets to fend for themselves is going to solve the issue of street dogs.

Some people made them street dogs,They bring dog to their house and and after some year that dog gives birth to puppies & I have seen people leaving small newly borned puppies in the market , road side, garbage disposal areas, they grow up there itself and finally they are named as street dogs.who is responsible for this, its the dog or humans. Good move by mcc, there are lot of other thing to look after also.

In the first place control street dogs menace. Street dogs move on streets in groups and attack children and aged people. Then go to the issue of licence/permission to pet dogs.

MCC can propose ration card for each pet to the State Govt. In any case they are giving free 30 kgs rice to the BPL families each month. This has made the daily wagers lazy. Many of them work only 3 days in the week. That money is enough for their 7 day alcohol consumption. That is the reason why it is difficult to get labour.

What a silly and mad rule / law. Does MCC have nothing better to do ? In the first place they cannot maintain the City well and now they are chasing dogs ? Hilarious stuff to read anyway.

The need of the city is NOT registration of pets, but a check out on people who take their pet dogs to the street in order to urinate and shit, two or three times a day, and keep the space inside their compound clean n tidy.  The so called posh localities of Mangalore are full of shit and urine,  making it cumbersome for the citizens to walk around.  This issue must be tackled  and eradicated  sooner.  The sad thing is most of the educated and rich people who have travelled extensively to other countries and have seen how those people go about with the task,  are responsible for this nuisance.

Who will abandon pet dogs? Let them carry out the civic work and make it mandatory to have quality and completion on time. More serious issues are there to deal with. As if they care whose pet is on the streets?

What MCC is doing find not good.Catching street Dogs and leaving them out after treating them .what nonsense is it?instead they could have a home for them when someone wants a dog could choose and take it.otherwise they are a Trouble maker to People .Pet Dogs are well cared by their owners.Only Problem by all Dogs are their Faeces left over.Better install all over the City boxes for this purpose .so streets also will remain clean. In western ,who has a pet Dogs should pay taxes, have a insurance when they harm anyone or bite another pets etc.

All pet dogs are well grommed and have a collar while the street dogs are diffrent. And if all they enforce the law how are they going to implement it ? will the MCC confiscate the dog for the defaulters ?

Keeping pets is not an easy task. Each vaccination, costs more that Rs. 300/- De-worming and other treatment remain. Another small amount may add up to register them with MCC but will this assure that there will be no stay dogs in the city ?

What a blunder ! Instead of making things easy for pet keeping in order to shun robbers, the authorities are coming out with ridiculous rules.

    MCC officials are gone insane.

What it has to do with the increase of street dogs menace TO rearing pet dogs.

Pet dogs are always taken care by their masters where as street dogs increase because of lack of MCC action. I am sure they are the main cause of the increase of street dogs as MCC Corporation pays Rs 495 each to the trust for the treatment of the dogs.

    Disgusting policy.

Aadhaar Card for pet dogs and cats. Contact your ward corporator for further details. Like the RTO we will now have RPO ( regional Pet Officer ). Fabulous rule by the MCC. The Mayor should be awarded the Bharat Ratna for this.

These pet dogs are nuisance for these common man walking on the road, these pet dogs are trained in mangalore to s#it on the roads by most educated owners of those dogs,& common man has to stamp those s#it & go.First it's better to educate these owners of pet dogs to keep our city clean,
More than that they also feed these street dogs with biscuits.Let them take these street dogs to their home & feed instead of doing nuisance to general public

At Marine Drive, considered to be one of the beautiful places in Mumbai, the BMC ordered that the people who take their dogs out there, should collect the dog's faeces and leaving it on the road would be fined. That order was later revoked.

I have seen in western countries, people take small plastic bag to collect the faeces, while dogs are taken out. One of my relatives in Canada has taken medical insurance policy for his dog.

Kamath I am one of those proud humans feeding street dogs. It all comes out of humanity. It's just like how your friends feed you when you go to their house, doesn't mean they have to keep you in their house. Street is a home of all street dogs and nobody can take that right away from them.

Thank you Mr. Karthik for taking care of those friendly animals, always known to be faithful to their masters. Dogs and cats are considered tamed and domestic animals by civilised society. Therefore, it amounts to gross cruelty on the part of human beings to kill or eradicate them or even to torture or neglect them.
