Terror attack at Uri Army base, 17 jawans killed

Srinagar, Sep 18 (PTI): Heavily armed militants stormed a battalion headquarters of the Army in North Kashmir's Uri town in the wee hours today, killing 17 jawans and injuring 19 other personnel in the terror strike in which four ultras were neutralised.

Explosions and gunfire erupted as the militants attacked the camp, which is located barely few metres away from the Army's Brigade Headquarters in Uri town, 102 kms from here, around 4 AM, official sources said.

The jawans of the Dogra Regiment were sleeping in a tent which caught fire due the explosion. The fire also engulfed the nearby barracks, the sources said.

17 jawans were killed in the terror attack, the Northern Command of the Army said. Nineteen other personnel were injured in the strike in which four militants were killed.

"A group of heavily armed terrorists targeted the rear administrative base of a unit at Uri, Kashmir. In the counter action, four terrorists have been eliminated and combing operations are in progress," the Army said in a statement.

"The administrative base had large strength of troops of units turning over after their tour of duty who were stationed in tents/temporary shelters which caught fire, and resulted in heavy casualties. We salute the sacrifice of 17 soldiers who were martyred in the operation," the statement said.

Helicopters from the Army's 19 divisional headquarters in Baramulla have been pressed into service and the injured Army personnel have been evacuated from the encounter site, the sources said.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag are rushing to Kashmir in the wake of terror attack in Uri. The Home Minister has also called an emergency meeting to review the situation arising out of the terror attack.

There should be a joint effort by World leaders to fight terrorism unitedly. The UN should intervene and impose sanctions on nations which are supporting terrorism. Our hearts go out to the members of the bereaved family of our Jawans. An independent enquiry should also be held as to how these terrorists could sneak into the camp even after the recent Pathankot incident. There seems to be something basically wrong in the vigilance at our army base.It makes the whole nation wonder how good and reliable is the intelligence network of our country, when the army camps are getting easily attacked.

I think the best way out would be to sue Pakistan at the International court of Justice in the Hague. The Indian government should assist ALL concerned families in filing this multi billion dollar law suite as compensation for all damages caused by this proxy war being fought in Kashmir by Pakistan.

This laws suit will cover loss of life, injury, damages to property and other stress and anxiety related issues. If they don't pay sanctions should be passed against this terrorist state and the law suit should be filed in line with those who got compensation when Saddam Hussain invaded Kuwait and the upcoming lawsuit against Saudi Arabia by the survivors and family members of 9/11.

There are two major attack on our soldiers in Pathankot and now in Uri army base,is PM Modi's center government in 'nidramaya' mode?Is this attacks are not dastardly ambush within our sovereign of the nation?

On the advice of part of the new strategy of Narendra Modi-Ajit Doval defence minister has double the presence of Indian forces in Kashmir to 5 lakh soldiers. The entire valley in curfew for more than 70 days.Nearly 81 Indians have lost their lives. Now another 17 soldiers and nearly 6,000 crores loss to business.

Despite BJP in full majority and coalition partner, the government has failed miserably in the Valley.

The law of gun under former RSS spokesperson and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Ram Madhav is only left killing field.

My sympathy with parents of brave soldiers who sacrificed their life for this nation.

You said it right... Dumb ass Parrikar is worried about Modi, instead of planning what action should be taken against M.F Pakis.
Subramanian Swamy said it right President rule and station army there over, if any disturbance, anything illegal happening just shoot on sight.
