Opposition flays government for 'security lapse' in Uri

New Delhi/Patna, Sep 19 (IANS): Several opposition leaders on Sunday sought to blame the Narendra Modi government for the terror attack on an army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir and attributed the assault to "lapses" in stalling the infiltration of militants.

Congress leader and former Defence Minister A.K. Antony said the attack that left 17 soldiers dead was "a serious security lapse".

Antony told media persons here that the Kashmir issue was "drifting and reaching dangerous propositions".

"This incident comes close on the heels of what happened in Pathankot. At both these places, the militants managed to enter military camps and this is a huge security lapse," he said.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi described the terror strike as a "cowardly attack as a deplorable affront on our national conscience".

She hoped that "the perpetrators of this dastardly act as also the forces behind them will be severely dealt with and brought to book".

In a tweet, former Home Minister P. Chidambaram said: "Government must mobilise all resources, manpower and material, to strengthen border defence to prevent infiltration of terrorists."

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad went on to take a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said: "Soldiers are dying due to the failure and negligence of Modi; where is his 56-inch chest now."

He said Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India but the situation there is going out of control, thanks to "only big talk and no action" on the ground.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) also condemned the killing of 17 Indian army personnel and maintained that Pakistan "must stop aiding and abetting the extremist forces".

"Despite the deployment of a large number of security personnel, the government has failed to stop the continuing infiltration of militants," the party said in a statement.

The CPI-M, which began its two-day Central Committee meet on Sunday in New Delhi, maintained that "for a longstanding solution of the Kashmir problem, political dialogue with all stakeholders as advocated by the all-Party delegation should be initiated without any further delay".

In a tweet, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi "condemned" the militant attack and said: "My heartfelt condolences to the families of the bravehearts martyred in the attack."

Some people are still behind Beef and Pork issue at this critical time..Some want Mr Modi to resign..According to them problem ends when Modiji resigns..I want to remind those negative minided people that from 2002 to 2013, Pak Terrorists attacked 18 times on Army camp (not talking about cross Border firing). We lost more than 120 Armymen including officers like Brig.,Captain,Lieutenant..Now in 2 years, Pak terrorists could attack only twice on Army camp..So,if I want to talk like you,I msut say Congress rule was horrible..Mumbai attack was under COngi rule.the Worst rule..But,I don't want to say..Now,only two options either ATTACK OR DEFEND..

Why do we have to dig old graves??? Instead we all should come out and tell the government in one voice that we need our country to secure, that's what the government had promised in the beginning of tenure. As of now more people have died in attacks comparing to before, cow attack/ religion attack/ terrorist attack/ military attack.

Got it. That is RSS's friend Ved Pratap Vaidik who had a warm and friendly meeting with dreaded anti India terrorist kingpin Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan. So who is the ISI agent now ? Which is the chamcha chor organization members who praised Vaidik's meeting with Hafeez Saeed ?

Why does one go on a friendly visit to meet an enemy uninvited ? Don't we make good biriyani here ?

Gifting saris there. Has any sari been ever gifted to the wife ?

Why does a high ranking official escort a dreaded terrorist to release him in a third country ? Was the terrorist placed in Business Class or First Class ?

Bhakts make any excuse to deflect responsibility. Any excuse to deflect lack of governance and inability to secure our borders from terrorists after so much of 56" chest thumping. Any excuse to bash the Congress party. Any excuse to bash any secular minded political parties like AAP etc.

Really doesnt change with lengthy comments. We are united and support govt during such crisis. We should not demotivate the govt when their already on their plan. ISI is now trying hard to pressurize govt not to take action on porkistan through chor party scamgress. Everyone knows most of the election funding for chor party comes from ISI/Porkistan and due to which chor party always supports terrorists and by pressurizing NIA/CBI even terrorists are made heros in India like Bihar ki Beti's...

Reality also does not change with immature comments which sound more like nonsense.
When 26/11 Mumbai attacks happened and UPA/Congress was at the centre we have heard the type of comments of BJP leaders. So we don't need any preaching/lectures from Nagpuri sympathizers about unity in such crisis.
So those comments about unity of the nation are better suited to be lectured there only in Nagpur.

By the way Which is the Chor organization who treat Nathuram Godse as a hero ?

Just remove the tag of friendship or negotiating terms for better friendship and replace by Counter action.(in any form and deed)
It’s high time for our leaders to realize that PAK's (leadership) is a branded enemy of India. Also this is not the time that opposition takes the opportunity to play a blame game. They should join hands to affirming their support to the government in any like future action.
Country & county’s security first and party attitude last.

What is our Govt doing? The defence minister is busy wagging his tongue in Goa and talking about Kejriwal's tongue when he should be acting. His boss has forgotten his own pre election rhetoric i.e., "In an interview to Rajat Sharma in a show called AAP KI ADALAT, Narendra Modi(who was Gujarat Chief Minister at the time) said that Pakistan must be taught lesson in its language and Rathore repeats same message in June, 2015 after a successful special forces operation in Myanmar by Indian Army when Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India." — https://youtu.be/6_nosREsJnM

Harish, War sounds easy, but rest assured, it wont be an easy and a painless one. It wont be just at the border. Moreover India is economically more developed unlike Pak.So Pak has nothing much to lose, India will go back couple of decades, there will be loss of lives on both sides. Its not we pick our guns and go to fight. The best ploy is to isolate Pak , so they do not get any support. Mind you the very people who bash here will blame 'chaiwala took the country to war, we were peaceful prior to that'.

Yes..We have to accept Government lapse..Since 2002, Pak trained terroirsts have been attacking Indian Army and killing them..It did not stop when BJP came to power..I feel more than Govt, our Army is not well prepared to handle terrorists..See,here in Uri attack..4 Jaishe terrorists wearing Indian Army unifrom cut wire fence and entered Army HQ..No one noticed..No Alarm system too..That itself shows how poor our Security system is..Any Tom & Dick can wear Indian Army Uniform and enter our Army HQ..May be someone from inside must have helped them..Our own people stab from behind..Indians are famous in back stabbing and Army men is not exceptional..

It is a big shame that 10 terrorists came by boat few years ago and hijacked Mumbai city for 48 hours..Just 10 Pakis..6 Terroists came to Pathankot Indian Army camp and stunned entire Indian Military..Now,4 terrorists created havoc in URI sector..They killed 17 soldiers and wounded more than 25 jawans..Please remember that only 4 Pakistanis attacked..Don't BLAME Pakistan did it..They do it untill we do it in their sytle..Question is....WHEN ?

I think this is the time we stay united with Govt. That does not mean waging a war against Pak or initiating a direct fight. However there are some actions India can take such as integrating Kashmir more closely with India. Take more aggressive approach towards so called separatists who are closely linked to terrorists and Pak Govt.

I hope opposition their support to Govt on these point instead of advocating to talk to "all stakeholders" in Kashmir.
