Mangalore, Dec 17: The Indian Farmers Day-2007 will be organised jointly by the Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti (KBSS) of Mangalore, Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha, CREATE-Tamil Nadu, Thanal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu Organic Agriculturist Movement at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Bhavan here on December 19.
The programmes will be organised to create a platform for farmers to come together and share their concerns on the future of farming and farmers’ welfare in the country. It is a gathering of farmers, farmers’ organisations and citizens concerned about the welfare of farmers, their land and livelihood.
The programme will be inaugurated by Mangalore Adichunchanagiri Shakha Mutt pontiff Dharmapalanatha Swamiji, founder of local Agricultural Training Institute, Fr Edwin Pinto and Karnataka State Sunni Yuvajana Sangha president Moulana S B Darimi.
A symposium on agriculture, farmer, land and environment will be held from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm which will be presided over by progressive farmer Dr. D Chandrashekhar Chowta.
New Delhi-based Forum for Biotechnology and Food Security director Devinder Sharma, farmer leader from Vidarbha Vijay Jawandhia, Tamil Nadu Organic Agriculturist Movement president Dr G Nammalwar, Muriyad Paddyland Protection Forum, Kerala activist Varghese Thoduparambil, Tamil Nadu Vyavasayikha Sangham general secretary Dr V Duraimanickam, Consumers Co-ordination Council of India president Prof. P Doraisingam and Nagarika Seva Trust, Guruvayankere president Somanath Nayak will deliver talks at the symposium.
A farmers’ rally will be organised as part of the programme from Scouts Bhavan to Urwa Market Maidan in Mangalore, which will commence at 3 pm.
Later, Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha president Kodihalli Chandrashekahar and Shri Kshetra Kemaru pontiff Eesha Vittala Swamiji will speak at the public meeting, which will be held at Urwa Market Maidan at 4 pm. KBSS president Madhukar Amin will preside over the programme.
