Mangaluru, Sep 20: “Mangaluru and Udupi are leading in literacy rate in the state. Similar educational atmosphere should created in other districts of the state. The development of the country is possible with proper education,” opined minister of higher education in Karnataka state Basavaraja Rayareddy.
He was speaking on Monday, September 19 after inaugurating 37th founder’s day of Mangaluru University in the Mangala auditorium and unveiling the foundation panel of international auditorium to be built in the university premises.
“It is heartening to note that Mangaluru University by imparting high quality education is growing parallel to other universities in the state. The laboratories and research centres here are the best laboratories in the world. However as education is progressing towards commercialization, social values are getting lost. Universities should provide value based education. The vice-chancellors of universities in the state should go to every department of each university in the state and teach student so that students obtain value-based education. Education has grown considerably in the state,” he said.
“Communal forces corrupt the minds of students. The chancellor should submit a petition that the bail granted to the accused who had kept a mobile in the toilet of female students be cancelled. The government does not tolerate harassment towards minorities and women. Strict action will be taken against such people,” said minister Basavaraja Rayareddy.
Minister of forests, B Ramanatha Rai said that Mangaluru University provides qualitative and value-based education. “Education alone can help form a beautiful society with social changes so that all can be self-reliant,” he said.
Minister Khader said that every university has the capacity to make each student the asset of the country. “Students should contribute for the country after receiving higher education. The efforts of students and youth are necessary to make the country stronger,” he said.
Drama artiste Devadas Kapikad and international sports person Sahana Kumari were honoured on the occasion. Letters of felicitations were read for film actress Vinaya Prakash and international sportsperson Vandana Rao in their absence.
