George, who served as the Home Minister and later as Bengaluru district in-charge minister, was forced to resign over his alleged role in the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) M K Ganapathi in July last.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the Cauvery water issue and the special session of the State legislature with the party high command, obtained the clearance to induct George into the ministry, sources said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganapathi, who committed suicide on July 7, 2016, in a video message named K J George, and two senior IPS officers AM Prasad and Pranab Mohanty responsible for his extreme step.
However, the CID, which probed the death of Ganapathy, on September 17, submitted a ‘B’ Report to the Madikeri Principal Civil Judge, JMFC Court, giving a clean chit to the George as well two senior IPS officers accused of abetting the suicide.
The police officer’s suicide had rocked the government and resulted in the resignation of George from the Cabinet.
The legal battle over the case is unlikely to end with this, as Ganapathi’s family is determined to fight for a CBI probe.
