Mangaluru, Sep 25: The police here have arrested a gang of seven, which reportedly had laid out honeytrap and had tried to usurp money from a person living in an apartment complex at Balalbagh in the city. A case has been registered in this connection against the gang members in Barke police station here.
Arrested members of the gang happen to be Avinash Konaje, Sachin Pachchanadi, Rajit Shetty Kuthar, Nitin Deralakatte, Srijit Konaje, Yatish Poojary Kuthar, and a woman.
It is said that a resident of an apartment complex at Ballalbagh knew a woman living in the same complex. Misusing this acquaintance, the woman told this resident that she needed some information, and told him that a lady will approach him on her behalf to gather this information. When the resident asked her to send the lady to his office instead of residence, the woman insisted on sending her to the flat.
The lady visited the person thereafter at his home and began gathering information, it is said, when six youngsters who barged into the flat all of a sudden, began accusing the man of having illicit relationship with the young lady. They forced him to pose for photographs with the lady and threatened to give wide publicity to the photographs, and demanded money in case the man does not want to sully his image. They went away after collecting Rs 2,000 in cash, a motor bike along with its documents, and a cheque for one lac rupees.
Thereafter the gang continued to pester him for more money. Even when he said he does not have money, the gang embers continued with their blakcmail tactics, after which the person got fed up and decided to complain to the police.
