Mangaluru, Sep 25: It is reliably learnt that the city police are weighing the option of raiding the Facebook office at Bengaluru for its failure to respond to letters seeking details connected with abusive and offensive Facebook posts which have the potential to disrupt peace in the society. The police might act against Facebook officials who were responsible for lack of response by the company.
Several complaints about personally denigrating and sacrilegious posts in Facebook have been received by various police stations in the coast. The police investigation is getting stonewalled by the lack of response from Facebook, which is silent over requests made to it seeking certain details about these posts. As Facebook has remained noncommittal even after reminders were sent, raiding their office would be an effective tool to make the company comply with requests, police personnel believe. They insist that it is mandatory for Facebook to cooperate with police investigation relating to things that are unlawful and harm public interest.
For this purpose, a team headed by senior police officers will be constituted. The department will approach the court for permission to raid Facebook office, it is said.
