President on a 3-day visit to Uttarakhand


Dehradun, Sep 27 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee will arrive in Uttarakhand on Tuesday for a three-day visit, officials said.

Elaborate security arrangements were made for the high-profile visit and security has been beefed up at places where he is slated to visit.

On his first day, the President will inaugurate a building 'Aashiana' at the Presidential Bodyguards' campus at Rajpur road here. He will also lay the foundation stone of 12 new units and after a brief stopover would proceed to Raj Bhawan.

Governor K.K. Paul would be hosting a dinner for the President on Tuesday night. Mukherjee is scheduled to leave, with family, for the Kedarnath shrine on an Indian Air Force chopper on Wednesday.

In other itineraries, Mukherjee will host a high tea for dignitaries and local VIPs at the Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he will attend the Ganga Aarti on the banks of the river at Haridwar. His stopover in Haridwar would be for two hours. He is set to leave for Delhi on Thursday in a special plane from the Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun, an official informed IANS.
