White House petition on Pakistan crosses 100K signatures

New York, Sep 27 (PTI): An online White House petition asking for Pakistan to be declared as a state sponsor of terrorism has crossed 100,000 signatures thus qualifying to get a response from the Obama administration.

The online petition launched by Indian Americans last week has become the third most popular petition on the White House website with nearly 110,000 people signing the petition. The Obama administration is expected to respond to it within 60 days.
The online petition was created on September 21. Congressman Ted Poe, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, introduced the Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act in the House of Representatives.

"This petition is important to the people of United States of America, India and many other countries which are continuously affected by Pakistan sponsored terrorism," the petition said.

An initiative of the US President Barack Obama, "We the People" online petition at the White House website provides a window to American citizens to campaign before the administration on a particular issue.

Currently on top of the list is the petition seeking to stop construction of "Dakota Access Pipeline" which has more than 210,000 signatures, followed by another petition seeking not to make "Kratom a schedule I substance" which has 137,000 signatures.

Meanwhile the White House said that it is currently focused on enhancing its counter-terrorism capabilities with Pakistan.

"That (designating state sponsor of terrorism) is a very specific process and determination that involves a legal process and assessment," White House Deputy spokesperson Mark Toner said.

"Our focus with Pakistan is to enhance their capability and to deal with terrorist threats on their soil. They are fighting a serious and sustained campaign against violent extremism," he said.

"We do believe that they are making progress and taking steps to counter terrorist violence, but at the same time we have been very clear that they need to target all militant groups, including those that target Pakistan's neighbours, and close all safe havens," Toner said.

Toner reiterated that it is the longstanding American position that the US believes India and Pakistan really stand to benefit from the normalisation of relations.

"We encourage both India and Pakistan to pursue and engage in direct dialogue that is aimed at reducing tensions," he said.

"We have long said that with regard to Pakistan, with regard to India, with regard to the region, there is no zero-sum game here. We are pursuing very close relations with India," the deputy spokesperson said.

"We have a deep and broad bilateral relationship and multilateral relationship, or work our multilateral issues with India. They are the world's largest democracy and we share a very similar vision of the world. And we obviously have very close trade and economic ties with India, and also that extends to security cooperation," he said.

"Similarly, we want to see Pakistan better able to respond to the threat that terrorism poses and terrorist groups that seek refuge in its territory," Toner added.

PM is representative of a nation he should always be on right path, treat all Indian equally and discard those who cause unrest and hatred within nation even if they are his own party people or affiliates. The Pride and Love of Nation should be above Individual gain and power.

Moral of the story after reading all comments is all countries will give only emotional help. India will have to fight its own battle in the sense become diplomatically strong and developed nation. treat every Indian equally becos if there is internal unrest one cannot fight on global from. If country is economically developed like america, france, germany no terrorist will dare to attack accept for few fringe incidents.

Dear Ramesh..Pic is very clear now..What you said is correct..but last sentence is little complicated one..We can't make friendship with China because China does not need us..Their friendship with Pakistan is UNBREAKABLE (quote: Chinese Diplomat)..Right now present status is like this and will not change in future too.

    1. Pak wants to fight India through terrorism
    2. China supports Pak for their terrorism work and watch live match.
3.India wants to attack Pak,but ring master China is protecting them..
4.USA condemns Pak in Public and pumps money and arms in Pvt
5.Russia is in its own World..It opens its eye if anyone attacks
    them only.

Note: Israel and France are with India emotionally..but Do they appear when India needs them..BIG question

This is right way of going than wa. Pakistan govt not commeners strict action should be taken by International law to arrest the terrorist orgnaisation and pakistan govt.. This will teach them lesson not to interfere and cause bloodshed without any reason.

Indian Govt should also stop playing divide and rule policy and not treat individuals as biased as "muslim" "christian" "hindu" "Dalit"but as Indian. A country which has unrest within itself cannot gain solidarity on International grounds.

Hope and pray it is implemented.

Yes, you want every one to be traeted equally.
But when it comes to common civil code, you oppose it. When it comes to abolish resrvations based on cast and religion you oppose it.
Isn't it termed as 'hypocrisy' ?

*shankar Frankly speaking we christians and muslims are time and again told indirectly that we are foreigners although our ancestors belonged to this country and Christians have done a lot of social work for betterment of country. There is always false allegations and accusals against christians. Youll forget this is a secular country and hot hindu country.

How can you give judgement on behalf of christians. Uniform civil code if it is within the purview of secularism is acceptable also it is high time reservation is stopped and only economically poor should be given benefit.

Enough is enough. Now Pakistan should understand that India cannot easily compromise an inch of Kashmir despite the fact that they are busy in killing people. It is shame on the part of Pakistan to disturb the territorial integrity of India when they have problems within their own country.

China's support to Pakistan is very striaghtforward and sincere whereas America's support to India changes according to situation and convenience of America..If India attacks Pak,there is no doubt that China will support Pak, They may attack India to save Pak..At the same time,we can't expect same help from America and Russia..Russia is in their own problem. Don't expect them to come..America just wants to sell its arms during war..BUSINESS WITH HIGH PROFIT..America is a FOX..China is a DRAGON.

V TRUE. Agreed. better to take help of European countries like France actually United Nations General Assembly. UN should make liable for the loss of life caused to Indian soldiers and pay huge amount in dollars in billions as punishment and if they cannot the govt should be sacked.

Unless they get a pinch they will not improve.
