Rajnath informs CMs, national leaders about 'surgical strike'


New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS): Shortly after an announcement that India carried out surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday informed key national leaders and chief ministers about the military operations.

According to official sources here, the Home Minister also informed Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.

The government has convened an all-party meeting in the capital on Thursday which will be addressed among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the all-party meeting, Rajnath Singh was likely to brief leaders about internal security situation in the country, sources said.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari were also apprised about the strikes.

On Thursday, Pakistani military shelled Indian positions across the Line of Control (LoC) -- which divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries -- at Danesh and Lakshmi posts in Naugam sector, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said. The Indian military retaliated.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations said the exchange of fire began at 2.30 a.m. and continued till 8.00 a.m., leaving two Pakistani soldiers dead.
